Skip the WD-40. When plastic gets on chrome pipes on a motorcycle, the BEST EASIEST way to get it off is to heat the pipes and spray them with Easy-Off oven cleaner. Let them sit an hour and hose it off. It may require more than one application, but works like a champ.

You are probably right. I use WD-40 for everything but oven cleaner sounds like it would work better.
