The Car that best delivers on the promises made by its manufacturers.
Summary from December edition. I know you can get CAR in the states; well you can in Colorado, but can take time getting there.
38 Contenders sampled over 2 days at Millbrook (racetrack/testing track) 11 finalist then taken to Wales for road testing.
Factors taken into consideration:
Design
Engineering
Safety
Value
Driver appeal
11th Bentley Continental GT
10th Mini Cooper S Works
9th BMW M3 CSL
8th Mazda RX8
7th Volkswagen Golf R32
6th BMW Z4 3.0
5th Nissan 350Z
4th Porsche 911 GT3
3rd Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale
2nd Mitsubishi Evo FQ-300
1st Vauxhall VX220 turbo
I do not think the VX220 is sold in the USA, never seen one, sort of like a MR2 but better. Especially the Turbo version. Looks like GM are missing a trick.
Otherwise if you want an affordable Sports Car, 4 seaters do not count to me, nor do rally cars, the Z gets the vote.

The Evo is the the VIII, I have no idea what the rest of the designation means. It made the cut, the Impreza did not.
The Z negativities revolved around bump steer and occasional bottoming out on the roads in Wales. If that was an issue to you, there seems to be after market solutions. They kept on comparing it with the Z4, a bit more cash, but if you wanted a Roadster the most obvious competition.
I looked at the Elise when I got my current car, Elise would be fine if you had it as a second car, just needed some more day to day practicality. I think the Elise US price is going to be $39,000, the VX200 Turbo would probably come in nearer $30,000 for a better package.

Did they post the lap times that they managed there? If so, could you post them here? ... would be interesting how they all compared on the track.
What is Mitsubishi Evo FQ-300?
It's an EVO VII with modifications (ie. like an STi to a WRX). The modifications are not major, but it has around 300hp and laps around 1 - 2 secs quicker than the 'regualar' EVO VII.
ps. EVO VII has a lot smarter LSDs/4WD sytem than the US EVO VIII.
