The Z affect
Gonna play Buzz Killington here...
No one gives a crap that I drive a Z.
I absolutely love this car. But the Z33's target market competitors were the S2000 and the RX-8. So when the 997 turbos, R8's, M6's, and C6's pull up on me, they immediately recognize the disparity, and they essentially couldn't care less.
Maybe it's a regional phenomenon. But the only people who want to "race" are Evo's, Subies, modified Civics, and Accord coupe drivers with small wee-wees.

I've been fortunate enough to recently move to an affluent coastal area where there are so many nice cars in a five block stretch, no one cares if you're in a Porsche, or distinguish differences from like a regular 3-series or M3. No one really needs to front on who's ride is worth more because there's always a bigger fish on the block.
Usually it's just the sportscar guys that all acknowledge each other (Old Porsches, Vettes, Ferrari's, even classic Z's) because it's a specific group of car enthusiasts sharing the same passion.
There is a style and swagger that is somewhat timeless in all simple sportscar designs and those who understand it will appreciate.

I really never cared of others opinions on my car... I like what I like and thats it but every so often there's that one compliment that makes your day. I was "competing" in the milemarker 1 event and owner of the fastest car there was a 04 Z06TT(200mph+) said that he never really looked at Z's but thought mine was exceptional. Miami isn't really known for Z's/Z tuning so that was nice of him to say.
I must be an odd ball here because I don't get any extra attention for mine just yet. Once in a while "sexy car" or "nice car" but nothing too flattering. Also no one ever tries to race either, but that could just be my area or something.
driving a Z doesn't get that much attention here, but I live in LA. there's alot of competition here. i don't think anyone here thinks you're rich if you drive a z. there's honda civic and integra owners picking up z's now just for fun. you can pick up a used Z for 15k no problem. on the other hand... if i see a clean, fixed up m3 or m5 on the road... it's like "daaaayaaamn". don't get me wrong, z's are still bad ***, but overall pretty common.
Race story: so i was driving home when a 90s eclipse was tail gating me then he pulled to the right lane of me n started to speed up n down signaling me but the up coming light just turned red and there was cars infront of us as well. So at the red light I pulled next to this guy and man... He was one of those teenagers who just got their license and thinks he all bad *** n stuff cuz he straight dogged me. N here I am with a smile on my face saying what's up to him. He just kept ******* as if I stall his girl or something... n I can't help but laugh at him so he got even more pissed. Green light pops and a car on his lane moves out the way so he just tried to speed off but I high beamed him n we were off. Ya all in all he missed his turn cuz he had to u turn... I felt like being a d bag just release my gas pedal n let him pass n then floor it again but juz leaving him in da dust was more suitable since I was tired n juz wanna get home. I will never forget that face... Way too funny.
