Default Do you remember the first time you redlined your car?

I got my first oil change today with about 1175 miles on the clock and finally got to see what this thing could do. Wow, life below 4k rpms is totally different from life after 4k rpms!! My grin was as big as the day I picked her up from the dealer.

Does this bring back memories for you guys?

At 1,200 miles EXACTLY, was holding 2nd gear at 4k, hit 1,200 and I went for it.

Yeh...I remember. I also remember the cursing when it hit the rev limiter!!(used to drive an Acura, was not use to shifting so early, and the VQ engine sounds the same at 6700RPM and 3500RPM!!)

Sorry guys, I've got to agree with Horenet59 here. That test drive car you redlined is going to be someone else's car and while it probably didn't ruin anything, you should exercise a little more consideration. I just don't understand people who abuse cars. Some of the guys I've travelled with beat the shnot out of rental cars and I just don't get it.

It's a car. A potential killing machine. Show some respect.

I agree and disagree. Sure I wouldnt want a car that has been beaten up from test drives, but hey, thats why you should order your car or do what I did, I bought mine right after it came off the truck!

Also, you gotta get a feel for it at least once before you buy it. At least most people like to.

Just my take...

i'm not sure if i actually redlined it (ie hit the end of the tach), i just know that i pushed it pretty hard. the crazy thing is that nobody accompanied me on the test drive, and it was the first time i'd ever shopped for a new car in my life.

Yep, I was rolling up to a stop sign going to make a right turn. The odo read 1199. So I made my right turn and immediate after the odo hit 1200. And then it happened, to the floor my foot went. Unfortunately it was short lived as a unmarked police car flashed his blues and shook his finger at me. I waited till he had passed and gunned it again.
