I think some of the kids on here don't relize that the reason why people don't respect you for having a z is because you didn't earn it. Now there are some who saved up all their money and learned how to drive stick on a honda or something like that and then bought a z. That is a rare ocassion and I think it's the fact that no parent should be stupid enough to give their kid a m3 or a 350z or anything of that nature. I am teaching my friend how to drive stick and i let him try once on my z and he said it's not a good car to start off with. Now this is a crazy kid who jumps off buildings and lights **** on fire and you can punch himin the face and he is like so what. If somone like that thinks a 17 year old shouldn't start with a z or be handed one then they really shouldn't IMO

Default I was spoiled

^^^ i got my Evo right out of high school and within a year it had 336 AWHP. I also learned how to drive a manual in it. But i never got a speeding ticket or anything in it because I was one of the responsible ones. I kept my fast driving on the track or on the weekends we would drag on this industrial seaway rd that had 0 traffic on the weekend nights. I cant deny that i gunned it a few times gettin on the interstate, but I would usually stop at the speed limit. So i guess it all depends on the kids level of self control

lol.... i don't think if you get ticks or not is any concern cuz i know people who are 40 and get tickets all the time and they drive a civic. I just know people who brag about their car and i'm like so did you pay for it and they say no and i say so shut your mouth cuz untill you pay for the car it really ain't your car. I won't even race a kid on the track if he didn't pay for it... i just have no respect for kids who don't even put up half the amount of the car.

It's just a car. I don't care who owns one. The day it becomes that big a deal to me, I'll just buy something better. For now the Z is fine. Paid for, and relatively fun to drive.

In my opinion age is just a number. A 17 year old with a 350z could know more about his car and could have the ability to handle his car better DUE to his knowledge than a 40 year old with a 350z.

I will agree however, that MOST 17 year olds are basically going to **** up any fast car he/she gets. But just remember that not ALL 17 year olds share the same mindset and don't be too quick to judge.

Agreed. Obviously, the stereotype is that any kid that young will abuse it and run it into a wall racing a SMART car or something. Well, the fact of the matter is it's fairly true, but it's not 100% of the kids. Some kids are smart and are actually careful with such a work of art. They baby the car. There are also the kids that don't wash the car, don't change fluids, don't do anything, but don't forget about the other small percentage that actually care about their (first?) nice car.

23 years old now...

'97 Ford Contour (hand me down)
'02 Sentra SE-R Spec V (lease, parents helped)
'06 Nissan Altima 2.5 (lease, parents covered all of it, I was 'breaking it in' for my sis for when she would get her license)
'04 350z touring (financed, 100% my cash)

So I was indeed handed quite a few cars, but I still feel I learned the value of money and cars. I took care of all of them, especially when I got the Spec V. That was a gift and I worshipped it. I don't think there's anything wrong with parents buying cars for their kids, as long as they educate them and are sure they will show the respect. (back to them, and the cars)

As for a first car though... I think a Z is pushing it. Everyone should be required to drive a beater civic or contour or something along those lines.

+1

I read it from time to time just to hear how every teen on our forum is the exception.
