Default Parking a Z in the City

I receintly bought a place in Boston, and have resident/street parking.

I was wondering if anyone else parks there Z in an urban area and if you have an opinion on it. Is there anything I should do/avoid, or any advice in general

I always have the option of leaving my car garaged at my parents house, but it would kind of defeat the purpose of having one. (Don't want to get a beater)

As for now I have wheel locks and the street is relativly quiet. Not to many gangstas wondering around this part of Boston.

Some things I am considering are

-car cover (Not sure if that will cause more unwanted attention though and others bumping thinking it wont damage the car)

-parking in first or last spot of street so 50% less risk of being bumped by crappy paralelle parkers.

-Fold both mirrors in.

Thanks!

I live in an appt and try to park on the ends as close to the curb away from the next car. I agree with folding in the mirrors. The only thing else you can do is park it in a well lit and gangsta free zone as possible and make sure u have dam good insurance.

Get yourself a bumper bully or something like it, if there is a way to even get one to work on a Z.

Wheel locks, CLub or steering wheel lock, LoJack, aftermarket alarm w/pager system and glass break sensor, dark window tint [if your state doesn't enforce a legal limit], use your cubbies to secure and keep valuables out of sight.
Plus, the minute you start making visible upgrades your car is automatically targeted. Purchased my car new in '04 and parked in the same parking lot for years. As soon as I upgraded the wheels and exhaust I joined the Smashed Window Club. Have decent insurance and if you have mods make sure to include them in your policy. All you can really do is pray nothing happens to it.
A few weeks ago, I stopped somewhere to get myself a sammich for lunch. Came out 10 mins later and my bumper was 1/2 off my car....

I live near downtown Los Angeles and my apt building was built in the 20's and has no parking. I ended up canvasing the neighborhood with flyers stating that I was looking to rent a spot. Got a gated spot in the shade on my street and pay 120 bucks a month for it. My gf didn't find a spot and her new cube has numerous scratches on both bumpers, has been towed twice due to filming, has to drive around looking for a spot when she gets home, and gets at least one ticket every other month for st. sweeping or meters. Oh and she got the cube because her scion box was stolen from right out front on a Sunday night.

Our cars have immobilizers so left isn't as likely but if you got wheels, they will be gone soon. Locks or not. And my area is nice urban la. Miracle mile isn't Compton but it doesn't matter.

If you gotta leave it on the street at least get a heavy duty cover. But you should try and find a spot to rent.

I street park and let me tell you my rear bumper and front is all messed up with nicks. Somebody also hit my license plate holder and cracked it in the front. Listen regardless once you street park just prepare your self you will eventually be bumped. Especially if you have that alternate side crap where you live. People always try to squeeze in anywhere possible.

I was pissed as ALL Hell the first couple time but now ive just grown used to it. I bought my car brand new and 4 months down the road someone took out the driver side mirror..
I live in pretty good neighbourhood as well but people some people have no sense & cannot take their time when parking.

OP your car is it Modified ?

lol if I could find a spot for $30 a month anywhere in boston I would be willing to walk a mile to get there. It's hard to find an outdoor spot for less that $250 a month where I am. A garage will cost you >$300

I actually have a tandem spot deeded to me behind my house, but the original owner gets to use it for 2 years under the P&S agreement.

Plus to get in it you have to go down a tiny alley and over curbs. I feel that I'm actually safter parking on the street than destroying my rims trying to get in and out of that tiny spot.

The guy who shares the spot with me actually bought a mini just so he could fit.

Been parking the 350Z and 370Z on the street for 6 years. Generally neighbors will give you a spot in front of the house. So you will be in the same spot all the time. Yes the car is covered.

^Yea I think I'm going to get a car cover. I have to get a custom fit for the Nismo I think...

I've been searching around and noticed there are a bunch of different materials.

Which materal is your cover made of? I assume since you have had it for 6 years it does a good job keeping the moisture out

I pay an extra $65 a month for my parking spot behind my apt in Chicago (I live in a decent residential area). I see people bumping other people's cars all the time trying to parallel park and they don't care. There's also street cleaning, so there are certain restrictions of when/where you can park. When it snows, there are also snow routes, which means parking will be even more limited. There are so many negatives to parking on the street (for me anyway), so I'm glad I pay a little extra to not have to stress over the little things.

The car cover would be nice, but I'm afraid other people will do things to the car and I'd find out a bit too late. I'm not going to be checking my car to see if the windows are smashed underneath, if you know what I mean.

^Actually that's my other question....

By getting a car cover, do you actually attract more attention and chance of vandalism that not having it?

I don't know about you, but my car's already 7+ years old (it's one of the earlier ones in production) and it's got around 113K miles on it. It's been raced for years so it's not in the prettiest shape. It looks pretty nice when it's clean, but I don't have time to clean it much since moving to Chicago.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that my Z is no longer going to be washed every week and will sit outside everyday. It's also getting older and looks/aesthetics have never been my priority. It's bound to get dirty and having a car cover will only scratch the paint even more. I really don't like the idea of covering it, as that means others may be tempted to get underneath it, damage it, etc and I won't find out until I take the cover off. Plus, it's just more tedious work putting it on, taking it off.

Welcome to Chicago.. This is how everyone parallel parks. Back it up until bump. Pull forward to bump. Back it up an inch...Get out.

Wait until you have to clean the snow out of your spot and put a folding chair in its place.
