just want your opinion, i'm going to get my 1st oil change soon, should i take it to the dealership or take it to my local 10 min. oil change place, (i go here for my other cars, i trust them.)

 

Dealership! It wont' be that much more than your quickie place and it's worth going there for your first, just in case there are any Technical Service Bulletins or other work to be done.

Ask in the forum if there are any Michigan owners with good dealership experiences.

 

Can't believe the dealer is a bargain in any sense of the word but the other guys probably won't be able to deal with the plastic shield on the bottom of the car.

 

i have 4 coupons for $15.00 for the dealership. anyways, guessing the best bet, so far, is dealership. thanks guys

 

On the topic of oil changes... when did you guys do your first? I have gone 500+ miles since I got the car last Friday with no oil change.

Also when did you switch to synthetic? I plan on using Mobil 1. I've heard 10,000mi range is safe to swtich?

 

I went 3000 miles, but would have done it sooner if I had a chance.

There has been some debate in here about whether to use synthetic or not. Some say you shouldn't, but a lot of people do. I don't know if there was a clear winner in the battle. Take a look around and you should find some of those discussions.

I do my oil changes at Wal-Mart. I go buy the filter at Nissan and pay $32 for Mobil1 synthetic at Wal-Mart. I watch them, they do a good job. I even chat with the grease monkeys a little and they agree to prime the filter before it's installation.

How much does it cost through the dealership?

hope this isn't a stupid question, but what's priming the oil filter?

 

went in to get 2nd oil change today (sry i hope its still relevent), service rep. said synthetic was 49 bucks! =\

no such thing as a stupid question...imho. priming the oil filter is pouring fresh oil into the filter until it is more or less saturated and filled with the fresh oil. When you start your ccar immediately after an oil change, the new oil must first run through the new oil filter and then into your motor. Might save your motor a second or two of time running without oil in it. Not a huge deal probably, but it makes me feel good.

When an engine builder builds an engine, they will run the oil pump with a hand drill motor before firing up the engine to make sure that there is oil in the cylinder walls.
