The problem is that tracks arent available at any given moment. When two kids pull up next to each other at a stop light, neither one of them is going to say hey lets call and see if the track that is 45 minutes away is open. Especially at 11 or 12 at night. Kids are going to street race, adults are going to street race. Its fun and its a rush. I am not saying its right but its virtually impossible to stop. More kids are going to die and more innocent people are going to be effected by it. The only you can do is be carefull and make sure you are doing the right thing. Watch out for the idiots.

Just FYI, when me and my friends street race, its on the upperdeck of the freeways, straight with barriers on each side. And its when no other cars are on the road late at night. Also we dont take people in the car with us. This doesnt make it right or even that much safer but it definatley better than doing it in traffic with street lights and intersections with an innocent bystandard in the car.

Stick to the backroads with no traffic at night. There are plenty of good places in Texas that have nice straight aways and are outside the city. Racing in the middle of the city is stupid, but I do it on lonely stretches of highway. You can drive 30 miles before you see another car. The only thing you have to worry about are deer. Oh well.

I complete agree with you, matt. Hopefully not everyone has to lose someone close to them to realize how pointless and worthless street racing is.

He's the 2nd that I know of. The Car @ Driver 350Z test car was driven by one of their testers (22 year old I believe), anyway, he lost control at a high rate of speed and died at the scene. That Z was totalled also.

Think we should differentiate between driving fast and street racing - they are not the same thing. if you race, common sense can go out the window; if you are just driving fast, you are more likely to shut it down a little as traffic dictates.

Good for him. Darwin theory in effect! No remorse for suckers.

A friend of mine here lost someone in the summer too in a grizzly mercedes CL crash on the west side hwy. all three passengers dead. Innocent gf and another friend in the back seat.

They should hang his mangled body on a telephone pole where kids race as a reminder.

The driver's parents should also be fined $500,000 for lack of teaching their child any responsibility.

If I were president I would tell every car manufacturer that all cars imported into the U.S must be low emissions and have a top speed of 80 mph, excluding the governer. Anyone who wishes to import hi-end sports cars would be taxed every yr the equivalent of the purchase price of the car. So if you wanted a z you would have to pay $30k for the car, plus $30k in taxes every yr for the luxury of going fast for the life of ownership.

Lets see how many ballers we would have then.

If I am being insensitive, then its because I hate to see people dying for no reason!

And I know sports cars wont ever go away and kids will always race. I for one love cars that go fast. But if you asked me to never own one again, for the sake of eliminating deaths like this, I would.

Lighten up, Francis.

Let any person on this forum who has never done anything stupid while driving raise their hand now................

Its definately no laughing matter.

I hold racing as irresponsible as DUI. And I am guilty of it once in my life.

Lucky to be alive. Lucky to not have hurt someone else.

The sad part of racing deaths is that there are legal places to go and get your lead foot excercise.

Can you tell I drive like a grandma these days?

I keep trying to come up with a response along the lines of, “I feel sorry for... “But then I end up deleting it all up because I realize it wasn’t true. I want to sound sympathetic but I can’t. The fact of the matter remains; he made a decision and paid for it. He paid for it, and tacked on the life of another who was probably completely innocent. Street racing is dangerous and that’s why it’s so enthralling.

Most ppl forget just how powerful machines are these days. Would you allow a chimpanzee, a psychotic, someone with a learning disability, or simply an ignorant person to command a 3200 pound machine with 287 horses? Where do you want to draw the line? To make my point more obvious, and I don’t mean to offend, but consider 9/11. Before that day, almost no one would have thought an airline could be used as such a destructive weapon. But then again, most ppl don’t see an airline as 100,000 pounds of metal filled with extremely volatile fuel going at 500km/sec as a potential missile. It’s all simple physics. Put enough energy in a given area and you can turn almost anything into a weapon.

And you never did ANYTHING stupid, even when your parents told you not to? Last time I checked, this person is 24, an adult, responsible for his own decisions. It is laughable how quickly people jump to blame anyone but the person actually responsible, and he paid the ultimate price.

Thats pretty funny. With a platform like that, I think we can rest soundly knowing you wouldn't be elected. Americans love our freedoms, and we're not going to vote for socialist ideals

Your RIGHT! Our american ignorance won't let us make a law to keep us from destroying ourselves. This can be seen in every presentable problem in today's society. I don't mean to start a social debate or anything, but it is our own society that will inevitably commit us to failure.

HaHah great! Then the only cars we'd have that could exceed 80mph would be domestic, unstable as hell, and only go in straight lines??

Oh yeah...and only the rich would be allowed to be wrecklessly irresponsible! you got my vote!

got my vote

I dont street race - i go to the track but it kills me when I have to wait 4 hours to get my 3 runs ( time trails during the week , on the weekend you're lucky to get all 3 runs) , plus the closest track is good 1,5 hour away from me.. I guess some people dont want to sacrifice their time and rather play with death..
i feel sorry for the passanger but i dont think the driver was holding her hostage in his car...

Hey guys, Just wanted to post some info i Learned bout this.

A Cop friend of mine told me the following :

This happened in Staten Island NY on Hylan Blvd....

The 350z was traveling around 120mph racing and lost control of the car.The Slide for 100+ feet and finally hit the pole at an estimated 90mph When the car hit the Pole, the driver side door and the passanger side door where slammed together.

Unfortunate but its horrible wake up call for everyone here.
