The S2000 looks like a doorstop, in the image of the infamous Fiat X19 or Triumph TR7. That is old hat and tired. The 4 banger is a little too cute, more of an updated MG. Finally, lets not even talk about the history issue, which goes back . . . what 3 years with the S2. Easy choice for me. You might be on the wrong site to be selling that the Z is too fat and the S2 is such a wonderful ride.

Whether its the s2000 were talking about, or the 350Z..there is really no comparison to the E46 M3...the "german luxury sedan" will crush both cars in straight - line performance, or around the track. That being said, if i were to choose between the 350Z and the S2000, I would have to choose the 350Z. Why? Because of the TORQUE BABY! To get the s2000 to go fast you have to rev it to its limits, and NO ONE drives like that all the time, that would be stupid. However in the 350Z you just punch the gas it almost doesn't matter what gear you in or what RPM your at, you will feel a surge of acceleration, making much more enjoyable as a daily driver. The reason the M3 is so good is because it has the best of both worlds, enormous torque EVERYWHERE, and an engine that happily revs to an 8000 RPM redline.

Lastly, wtf are kids in school getting handed 35-50g cars for? Welcome to Jersey!

Second, what the f*&k was the Jersey comment about? Last time I looked, silver-spoonedness wasn't intrinsic to New Jersey.

"Yep, reminds me of the reaction a girl I know at work had to someone's S2K parked in the lot --- "HEY, what a CUTE little car!!!" "
WHO THE freak cares what a stupid girl says about a car, she obviously has NO clue, after all, I have heard girls refer to a 911 as a "pregnent lady laying on a rollerskate", I was much more embarrassed for her than I was for the Porsche owner. Why would you worry about trying to impress someone who has NO clue about car and doesn't care to??? If that is your first priority, get a Yukon or Expedition, like every female in my community, they seem to think they are sports cars and superior to everything else anyways (at least they way they drive them around here)
I guess I am really stuck in the middle on this
I love S2Ks and would have gotten one if the Z never came outt (I am not a cabrio fan anyway). The # of cylinders is irrelevent, after all, if that was the most important thing, wouldn't you have bought a Mustang or a SS???
Then the M3 is another favorite of mine, who cares if it has a back seat it is still badass and LOOKS it too. we have another camp talking about how heavy the Z is compared to the S2000, well, that person should NEVER buy an M3, the thing is super heavy, But I don't care, b/c it is still very very fast!!!
this is a funny conversation, so when you drive down the street and see an S or a M3, do you look at him as you ENEMY??? or do you appreciate what they have and glad that you are looking at that INSTEAD of another stupid SUV or pontiac product??

OMG...this is exactly the same symtom S2K owners had in the beginning of S2000 introduction phase. It took them almost 2 years to realize that their car is fast but not fast enough. I wonder how long it will take for 350Z owners.
There is always very good and bad track number for all cars. But all things considered, S2000 is a "14 sec flat" car in the hands of a regular "good" driver, IMO. Although 350 Z has more hp and tq, it weights more as well. With all things considered, I would say it will be a "14sec flat" car for regular "good" driver as well. Yes, I am sure there will be occasional high 13s for 350z just as S2000 did. That absolutely doesn't mean anyone can do it any day of the week on regular basis.
For instance, a stock M Roadster with new engine (01-02) ran 12.56 one time by a skilled drag racer. Does this mean my car could have run mid 12s when it was stock? My car could have but it won't with me inside for sure.

It hasn't even hit the dealers in full stock. No you refer to your history dating back with the Datsun 280zx. When you start comparing be sure to get your facts straight and compare objectively. The s2000 was based on engineering knowledge from the S600 S800 as your 350z history can be traced back to previous Zs. Oh and the cute little four banger can keep up or beat that cute little six banger referencing from previous posts.

M, I agree, I do think the 350 will be slightly quicker with the same driver, just b/c not many people will be willing to rev a car (S2000) to 9000 rpms and drop the clutch. I know I LOOOOOOVE speed, but if I paid 32K for that car, I would NEVER do that, NOT even once.
THEY ARE BOTH great cars
THEY ARE BOTH great cars
MAN OH MAN..the s2k vs the 350z.
This has gone too far, imo. Why dont you guys just wait for some real statistics and then talk about which car is faster. Isnt that what we always do? dont we always compare cars performance based on the valuable information we get from mags like C&D and R&T?
As of now, we only have 1 magazine that have tested both of these cars (atleast from what i know) and provided us with both of their stats. This happens to be C&D.
and from C&D we know that the 350Z specs are:
0-60 in 5.4 secs
1/4 mile in 14.1 secs
1/4 mile spees at 101 mph
and the S2000 specs are:
5.2
13.8
100 mph.
Does that mean that the S2000 is faster? absoloutly not. because R&T, a mag that hasnt tested the Z yet, got the S2000 in
5.8
14.2
98 mph.
Once R&T (and maybe a few more mags) gets the Z on the road and provides us with some stats (like they did with the S2000), then we will have 2 major mags that have tested both of the cars, which will give you a stronger argument as to what car is faster.
So until then, i think people need to chill, relax, and enjoy their new Z's. Time will come people. Adios.

silver, in reality, it looks like the cars are to close in #'s to really claim a "winner", the handling, accel, braking, etc... on both cars are very very good and very close. What the decision comes down to is personal preferance (coupe VS roadster, 6 vs 4, small vs slightly larger, light vs slightly heavier, Nissan vs honda, etc, etc....)
They are BOTH great cars, I will so that much!!!! and both compete with the much more expensive Boxster S, M roadster, etc... for a fraction of the cost.

M roadster?? Nah, lets not over exaggerate the Z's abilities now.
your talking 0-60 in 4.5 and 1/4 in 13-13.1 flat.
(See folks, i retained my info about this vehicle from mag tests, which is exactly my point in my last post..
)
ok, back on subject

silver, I guess I should have been more specific, I didn't mean the new 315 HP version, but the old 240 HP version (99% of the ones you see on the street), sorry for the confusion.

Hey Rod, sorry, didnt mean to come off like a jerk.
Yes, you right about the older version of the M, and ur also right about the cars being so close in performance. I pretty much think it will come down to the better driver if you ask me.

What are the chances of running into new engine M Roadster/Coupe (S54, 2001-2002 model year) when there is only about 1000 of them in total. When you come across a M Roadster or M Coupe, chances are, it is an old model. However, there are a few SCed old ones out there though.
And yes, 350Z and S2000 competes very well against Boxter S and old M Roadster/Coupe. I would say that's a pretty amazing deal considering the price difference.

Just curious...which R&T issue is that? The Road Test Summary in the 9/02 issue quotes 5.5 for 0-60 and 14.1@99.6 for the 1/4. These times were originally published in the 9/00 issue.
BTW, R&T tested the 350Z Track in the same 9/02 issue: 5.6sec for 0-60 and 14.3@100.2 for the 1/4.
But I do agree that numbers are so close in both C/D and R&T that it will be a driver's race.

to mym3s2000350z.com. Plus the Audi innees. Seems to me that some of the newbies registered for this site so they could come over and start making problems. Why would a devout Audi TT, M3 or s2000 fan register on the site unless they wanted to play "my car's faster than your car". I know what an M3 and an s2000 can do-nice cars. But we Z owners are just starting to get a few of the cars through the break-in period. I am sure that better times will be posted in the future. This thing is getting to sound like a "mine's bigger than your's" argument. All cars have strengths and weaknesses. Things even out in the long run. I hope none of us are getting on the other sites and acting up. All IMHO.
