Default Issues with the 08 350z I need to be aware of

I am driving 5 hours away this weekend to purchase (hopefully) a 2008 base model. It is black with 29k on it. We are going to pay about 20 for it.

From the pictures it looks great.

When I get there, im going to get them to put it up on a lift for me and let me look under it. I want to inspect this thing inside and out. I know alot about cars and I have a rock crawler jeep wrangler. I do all my own work on my vehicles.

From what I have read, the 08 is about the best year of the 350. What do I need to look for when I get there?

Im making a check list.

thanks for the help guys.

Check for 2 intakes and no steering controls (base model, means it has NO VLSD). If u want a VLSD DONT get a base. Cruise control doesn't exist for base models either. Unless you make ur own. Love my 08 base. Good # of miles on it too! Good luck!

It's a great car..I bought my 08 Touring last year with 37K mi for that exact price. Even with those MI, that price a little high for a base model. Try to get it for 18500...I hope you didn't *show your hand* yet

Trouble free still at 7k HARD miles! No oil consumption at all like the 06's. I check the oil frequently and it's still right under the 1st dot on the dipstick. Another friend on here drove his 08 Nismo Z for 32k miles and did a compression test after they took the engine out for a boosted setup and didn't lose any compression at all cylinders with tracking and just driving it HARD. It's a very durable engine as long as you take care of it. You'll be fine. The only thing, I would watch out is the slave cylinder because some owners have had some issues with that. Hope this helps and good luck!

Ask about issues with 350z: melted face courtesy of forum vets

Mention that Z is an '08: praise for the model year and serious advice given.

This thread did not deliver as intended...

Don't know what you're missing.

The 2008 was the best in the 350z breed.

Not many known issues.

I've had my 08 since 37K mi (now pushing 50K). No issues..not one.
Previous owner found me here recently (he was a member here and I never knew that!) and told me ZERO issues when he owned it. Car is friggin ROCK SOLID..not a squeek or peep.

On my 08, I went 6K miles and used a little less than 1/2 Qt.

I'd be more concerned about the obvious elements - carfax,
Interior condition (scratches/smoke odor), body, rust, etc.

2007 and 2008 were the "quirk free" ones mechanically speaking, just watch how you handle that damned interior - it scratches VERY easily!

With exception to the absolutely heinous clutch engagement point and minute window,AND the clutch slave cylinder. My 07 is alot worse than my 03 was for clutch engagement and i imagine the 08 is the same as 07.

I had the infamous clicking noise from the axles. Had to pull them and grease them.

I have NEVER seen a Nismo for under 25k, 07/08 Nismo 350Z's are going for as much as the 09/10 370Z's here.
