As sad as it is, it's not the first time we've seen or heard this type of thing on here. Annoying bit is, guessing it's the same there, when your car is maliciously damaged your insurance excess climbs, through no fault of you own.

Last time I had one of my cars repainted after being extensively keyed/with metal shavings, all the effected panels were painted to ensure perfect match. Might be better techniques now, this was a few years ago. Good luck with getting it sorted.

Can you post pics of the keying? I wanna see what this clown did. Sorry to hear about it OP- but try to look at it this way- you have a good chance at coming out on top because now your going to get a brand new paint job. Hopefully the insurance will take it out as "vandalism" and you wont even have to pay a deductible. At least that what my case was a few years back for my '05 Z.

Meeting with the insurance went good and the Z is going in for a full repaint under vandalism and they are sending a new radio for my truck. At first the repairs were going to be done panel by panel but the insurance guy said it would be best to do a one line write up for a full repaint of the entire car. Total cost in repairs is $3600. It's going to a local shop that has a lifetime warranty on the finish as long as I own the car and all the work performed has to pass my approval before I take the car back once repaired. So I have faith it will be done right.

I took pic's but I have a few things to do before I upload them.

Most likely A no good bum collecting welfare checks that dont cut his needs.
People with no ambition to get out in this world and make a dollar like to find people that have nice things and take whatever they have.

I hate to see this. Im sure you will be back on your feet again soon.

The thing that upset's me is that it looked pefect before this. Even the insurance guy said he was amazed at the condition of the car for 121K miles. I take care of my stuff...

Damn...hate to hear this bro....some one always wants to kick some one when they're down...maybe after you get some cameras they will be dumb enough to come back...replacing my top thursday on my Z because some one decided it needed a couple of air vents...one on the passenger side and one 12" long cut along the top seam on the driver's side.....vandals should be beaten and dragged through salt and broken glass...just sayin

I would break someones legs if I caught them and I hate to hear about your vert top. That makes the car nearly undrivable because if you get caught out in the rain it would be a disaster.

Thanks! I have spent a lot of time on autopia.org learning to care for paint. I use a 2 bucket wash method with grit guards, 2 micro fiber mitts, Meguiar's Gold Class wash, clay once a year and polish/wax each spring and fall. The car has minimal swirls, 0 dings or dents. The only thing I need in my cleaning arsenal is a Groits buffer because polishing and waxing/sealing by hand sucks ***.

I also think it's the color of paint you have that hides a lot of the imperfections and "grunge" buildup from rain/air pollutants, etc. I have a black car and it stands out extremely bad. I recently clay barred my car for the first time and it really opened up the shine and clean look, but I haven't waxed which I'm sure is not a good thing. Any wax brand recommendation you have or fabrics to use with the wax that has worked well with you? Also, I notice, man your headlights look brand new. How did you manage to keep them so clear looking? Mine are still in pretty good shape, the top corner of one started to haze and I clay barred it as well, it took 98% of it off and they look pretty good now. BUT, I've heard you shouldn't clay bar them and I haven't "resealed" them with any wax which I probably should. I need to do an overhaul of my wash/wax process anyway because my paint is starting to age.

You need to polish/wax after clay as it removes everything including previous wax or sealants. I have had good luck with using Mothers products over the years but I will be making the switch to Griots or Poor Boys products. The head lights are new because I hit a deer last summer on my way home late one night. I keep them looking new by waxing them about once a month. Helps to protect the surface from UV rays that haze the lights over time.

I suggest autopia.org for any detailing tips and autogeek.net for supplies.

Yeah...it was a pain...patched it temporarily...I lucked out..ordered an EZ-on cloth top..there was a delay in shipping...so they sent me a Robbins cloth top instead...so new cloth top installed for less than a grand...but I would still like to get my hands on the little jerk.....hopefully your paint job turns out good...it looked like it was awesome before...
