Default Nismo Aluminum Fuel Cap

Dosn't fit.

Too small, has anyone else run into this?

You are correct.
I used my Dremmel tool and removed the plastic lip around the top of the OEM gas cap. Then used two screws that were longer thatn the set-screws that came in the Nismo cap.
Be sure they are not too long to keep the cap from ratcheting.

I would also use epoxy to make sure the bond is tight

The top of the Cap has a ratchet effect. Once it is tight the cap will continue to turn without over-tightening the piece that screws into the gas filler tube.
I wouldn't use any epoxy because it might stop this from happening.
I have had mine in place for a few months with only the two screws and it works perfectly.

Default Epxoy

In order to get it to fit, you have to get the upper lip off.
Dremmel will work, grinder. I took a stain glass soldering iron and burned mine off, then sanded smooth. doesnt matter how you do it. You just have to get the top lip off. Then the silver cap will mount flush to the bottom black lip. The mounting of the silver cap will cover over all the mistakes you made in cutting the top lip off. Then I mixed up and put some epoxy on top, then installed the cap, screwed in the screws and wiped off the excess epoxy.

I had seen two others before I did mine, and believe me,it works.

Also you dont have to worry about the ratchet effect.
The black cap is solid, with the rachet effect in the white section only. The white section can be removed,(with a little prying with a screwdriver) and reinstalled with no effect of the ratchet.
It is not neccesary to remove the white but you can if you want.

Just so you know a replacment cap is like $12.00, so I ordered one, and experimented with the other.

Give it a whirl. you wont be sorry.

You know, you'd think they would make something that would fit without modifications. Does anybody know of a chrome replacement gas cap that will fit?

I'm new to this Aluminum Fuel cap thing....I have never seen one but I have a safety concern. Will this fuel cap cause any sparks due to static discharge? I have heard too many accidents about ppl touching the gas nozzle.

Here is the link to the cap at Courtesy Parts

The cap fits over the top of the OEM gas cap, you know, the one that came with the car.

Sweaty - It is chrome. The nozzle on the gas pump is aluminum, no safety concern.

lowrider - Exactly the same thing I said to Richard at Courtesy Parts right before I said "ship it". It's $50 worth of bling plain and simple.

ajk4 - sorry for the bad image. it's night in my garage.

Why they decide to make the Z cap different than all the rest I do not know. A standard generic nissan cap will fit all or almost all models, but the Z cap is different than them all. I found this out when I went to get a 2nd cap to cut on.

The only thing that I can surmise is that the cap must be firmly seated before the fuel pump can get suction to work, or it has something to do with the gas mileage/fuel consumption function on the digital readout. In order for it to make the read out, the fuel cell system has to be closed, and therefore the specialty cap with the different rachet mechanism closes more tightly.

But I will be the first to admit, I dont know for sure. Purely speculation on my part.
