USAA 1200 a year for Supercharged Xterra and 350Z Roadster. There are a few perks to being 30-something and married to a get-out-of-jail-free guy.

you're on USAA, cant beat their rates....so whatever youre quoted is gonna be about as good as it gets. just call the insurance company and ask.

Im 19 as well, and live in NJ possibly the worst insurance state besides cali, im under my parents plan and with good student disc. etc i think it runs a little over 1.2K, but because im under my paretns plan i believe they worked it out so for insurance purposes im actually the "driver" of my sisters explorer. Just buy the Z and worry about insurance later, you wont regret it. get a second job or a first...lol

There are several games that can be played to keep your insurance reasonable. Consider registering the Z in a parents name. Consider putting another family car in your name---say the 1974 Gremlin Sport-a-bout. Since a car is in your name, you will not be charged even an occasional driver rate for the Z. If you have a good insurance agent, they will help you to rate this out.

I am not suggesting this, but, a friend of mine bought an RX8. It has four doors and a small enough engine to be considered a "family sedan". There is a chip that can be purchased from the dealer that brings the engine up to full sports car power.

Also, please remember Mr. 19 year old Z dude, you will be driving a car that is a police magnet. Good luck and happy driving!

I have 5 vehicles and 4 drivers on my policy. My carrier, Nationwide, actually worked WITH me to figure out how to best associate drivers and vehicles to get the best rates. For example, they associated my youngest son, who drives a 2002 Honda Civic SI on our 1994 Ford Ranger, and assigned the Civic to my wife, who also is rated and drives the 04 Maxima. They put my other son, who drives an 03 Acura RSX on his own policy, but he gets maximum discounts due to being under my policy with homeowner, multi-car, and long-term discounts, etc. Nothing deceptive going on, at all. They know that my son is the primary driver of the honda...it is all about getting a good working relationship with a good agent. I've been with NW for about 16 years. They really are excellent and go beyond the call to try to configure my policy so that it is the least painful. For all 5 vehicles (the 5th being my Z Roadster), my bill is approximately $6k annually. The boys don't get a break until they are 25. But having at least the one rated on the truck makes a difference of about $2k a year. Good luck!

Hmm...I'm 20 years old, got my Z just before I turned 20 and my rate is a little more than $1200/year.

I go through Liberty Mutual, it was cheaper than I thought it would be.

im 21, on my own policy, no mommy or daddy, i have Defensive Driving, 2 car discount (my maxima is also on my policy), NMENC member discount.. Im paying 1800 for 6 months, so thats 3,600 a year.

When I first started shopping around All state wanted 5k for the year, geico was the cheepest by far, and so far im happy with thier rates.

I told a buddy of mine who is 17 looking to lease his first car, my rule of thumb, is that the cost of your car per month (pyments and insure) shouldn't exceed 50-60% of your monthly income. just a good rule to live by in my view... good luck
