Post Do you keep the spare tire in your z?

Just wondering, do you guys care to bring a spare tire, or would you rather have that weight off?

Nope. Weight loss was the idea but honestly, weight out of the back isn't the best place to lose the weight; make's the car more squirrely and prone to unnecessary wheel spin. However, now my car is so low that if I had a flat, I A: wouldn't be able to get the jack under the car and B: I'd probably be dragging due to the tiny tire. Thus the tire stays out.

^ all of the above.
that spare would hang my sideskirt right into the ground.

As for wheel spin.. yeah.... not sure what this tunnel hatch is going to do to me.. big single turbo FI and a rear hatch w literally no lexan or ANY glass to mention... i think total weight was like 41 lbs or something....

its like having someone small sitting on your bumper... and then the person gets up and leaves lol.

Good question.
From the initial responses it appears, depends of what is the focus of you Z.
Everyday driving,performance?etc.
A good point was made on if you had a flat, those lowered or,with body mods
would have a helluva time getting a jack under the car.But hey,say you have
a flat. What do you do?Your gonna have to figure something out or,leave the
car there lol.For me its a combo.Got a spare if I need to change a tire.Also
that spare with the other sound deadening stuff in the trunk keeps the road
noise out of the cabin.I packed the wheel of the spare with insolation(can
remove). It makes a difference in exhaust noise coming inside.

I was going to take the spare tire out but I ended up getting a flat and I thank god I didn't because I would have been stranded if I had taken it out. I dont believe its really worth the little weight you lose, its not significant enough to risk being stranded in my opinion.

41lbs? I've been meaning to take that dang thing out for the longest time now. Lol. Have to pull the system out under the strut. If I get a flat, I'm SOL. 380mm bbk rotors all around+low=no benefit there.

you know that is main question one should be asking. do you want to be stranded or do you want to carry a spare so you can use it when you need to.

I would also have to pull the under strut sub box out to get the spare out, I had the installer leave plenty of slack for the amp and peaker wires so I can pull it and sit it on top of the strut and also had some handles installed on the box for easy removal.

I leave mine in, better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it. I can see if you're at the track or something then yeah ok the weight savings will be used but for everyday driving its not worth it. Or you can always add more power to make up for the weight.

Porsche 911s don’t have a spare, or run flat tires. Instead they have a large bottle of tire sealant goo that is purported to seal up quite large punctures. Packed in the trunk with the sealant is a small electric air pump that plugs into the cigarette lighter to re-inflate the tire. It will be messy to clean out the inside of the tire if you want to patch it, also you may have to replace the Nissan style tire pressure monitor if you are unable to blow the goo out of it. However, this will be so ‘worth it’ compared to abandoning your precious Z in an unfriendly hood or a long walk home from the middle of nowhere.

You could replicate this kit and save the weight of the spare, jack and tire tools for low cars with oversized tires.

I always have one with me. The added weight is not needed, so I remove it at the track, weight shouldn't matter when driving around on the streets.

I think driving without your spare, especially if the car is daily driven, is pretty stupid.

Perhaps if it were a full size spare.. but if your cars lowered or has a body kit at all..its totally pointless weight. Its just too small to use.

It also won't work w a bbk... so yeah..there's certainly reasons to ditch it that IMHO outweigh having one heavily.

Yeah I agree but cars that are typically modded in such a manner probably aren't daily drivers.
