Again, if it is the noise I am thinking of, you can not hear it from outside the vehicle. I have been outside MANY z's and herd NOTHING. Then gotten inside of themand they make the same sound mine does.

Then again I may be talking about a diff. sound.

Go get an exhaust system to drown it out if it bothers you and it is this "normal" noise I am speaking of.

Mine has a bit of a buzzing/grating/scratching sound when I'm in first gear, right at about 1800 RPMs. But it doesn't always happen; in fact, if it's a hot day, I don't get it at all. Gary, the foreman at the Stevens Creek Nissan service center, hypothesized that it might be something with the heat shield for the exhaust. But he wasn't able to reproduce the problem from a cold start. Icy Z drives fine, though.

Just some clutch chatter I believe..
Exactly.
When I first got my Z, it didnt make this noise. A week later, it made this noise. It also gets louder when you've been driving the car hard . Anyone else notice that?

lemonjuan or whatever your name is: Keep an eye on it. The trannys on these cars suck. I have that "chatter" noise during low rpm acceleration. I also developed a grind.

Default No biggie

Sounds like no big deal to me. The dealership can lift the car with the wheels off the ground and run it in gear while a tech listens for noises underneath. They might use a little handle brake to create a load on the drive line.

They had to do this for my truck to diagnose a problem in the diff.

The Z engine/exhaust does seem to resonate as it approaches 2K RPM. It could just be a loose heat shield or bracket or something.

I would not worry about it at all yet.

Take your car to another dealer to get a second opinion. Good luck!

mine's doing the same thing after my tranny swap. at low rpm's, especially after it's warmed up, i can hear a rattle (and yes, it can be heard from outside the car)

it's almost a clunky sort of noise.

i'm going to bring it up the next time i'm at the dealership for the next round of warranty fixes. at this points, i'm so tired of my car being in for little ****, i'm putting up with the millions of rattles that the interior is giving and the rattle of the tranny/clutch (?)

Isn't there someone in Maryland who can suggest a trustworthy dealer she can work with? One who will explain why it's "fine"?

Lemon, you're going through one of the worst parts of owning a car; the "not knowing" part. It drives a lot of us crazy. You might get face to face with your Service Mgr and simply ask him to explain:
1 - what is making the noise
2 - why is it not a problem
3 - what did Nissan say

Do you have a really big boyfriend you could take with you?

Also, it might be worth your time to try to find the thread that gq_model_626 mentioned. Rattles can be mind-hurting. Many years ago I had a transmission rattle that ate my lunch untill I found a loose linkage rod. The point is that this may take you a while. Get used to it and don't let it eat you up.

So, according to yobri's sig, if I put a picture of my dog in my avatar (if I knew how to put a picture of my dog in my avatar), people would think I'm a really intelligent dog, for a dog?

Anyway, Lemon, just keep your cool, be patient, don't worry, and don't let them beat you down. Easy for me to say, huh?
