Default MAJOR problem...BLah.Blah...

alright... I just bought a Z like a month ago.
and it has only 1000 miles on it right now and im having this problem.
when i put the gear in 1st and start going...
between RPM 1000~2000, the car makes rattling noise from bottom of the car...
sounds like exaust shakin and sound like old azz car thats bout to break down...
its not just simple rattling noise.. and it happens sometimes on 2nd gear..
when the RPM is low .. like 1000~2000.

So I took my car to service, and at the first time they said theres no problem, and later I drove the car and let the service manager hear the noise and he said my car is not normal...
and they decided to call nissan and they would give some respond this afternoon and they never did...=.=

do you guys think i can ask for new Z?? since my car has paper tag and I didnt fu*ked up the car...

and anybody had same problem as me? whats wrong with my car??

mine makes that noise and always has after it gets hot. Only at very low rpm's. so far it's never been a problem and i drive/shift hard a lot...seems like a heavy duty trans/clutch and is common on this forum

sounds like yours is worse than mine, it's not got any worse and it is quite when cold. there are others on this forum that have same sound so i figured it was somewhat normal. i have 17k miles with no problems except the noise. a friend with a vette has the same sound right after engaging the clutch. like mine you never notice it after 1000-1500 rpm's. i never stay at 1000k long enough to notice it anymore.

I was actually recently wondering this myself, as I have noticed the sound as well. Seems about the same rpm range. I noticed if I lightly press on the clutch pedal, the sound goes away. It doesn't make the sound all the time though

unless you have a factory defect i still believe this is normal. this clutch and trans are heavy duty, i've learned to not even try to baby the clutch (it can take it) and i never notice the noise any more unless i try. i don't mean i drop the clutch or slip it i just get moving and at 17k it will boil the tires at will. it still feels like it did when new, i was a little worried when i got it but like i said i just get the car moving and i never notice it. doesn't mean i don't have a problem i guess but if anything ever changes i'll be right at the dealership. mine gets quiet when i push in the clutch.

Not easy to visualize a sound based on a written description, but this sounds suspiciously like some sort of exhaust vibration. I haven't had occasion to crawl under my Z yet, but I'll bet there are a few heat shields under there, perhaps around the cat. It is very easy for one of them to set up a vibration under certain loads.
On the other hand, your Service Tech should have been able to pick up on that with no problem.

you will probably have to find it for them, you have to be firm but calm and concerned with them to get their attention...i guess they are busy

If this (exhaust rattle) is actually the problem, it's not always easy to locate since it only manifests itself when the vehicle is running and it is under the car.
Sometimes you can duplicate an exhaust rattle by putting it in First (or Drive) with the hand brake well set, ease off the clutch, and give it a little (I said little) gas. Under load, you might make it rattle.
If you do this, be very cautious. It's your nickel (i.e., I take no responsibility if you run it through the back of the garage, or something). Just kidding, but don't get carried away. In fact, don't do it if you don't feel confident. Let the dealership deal with it.
I wouldn't worry so much. You'll probably get a call from them tomorrow with a fix.

Not big enough for you to lose sleep over tonight. Just make sure the dealership doesn't try to put you off. If push comes to shove, you might seek out some Z-owners in your area who are knowledgeable enough to listen to your car and, if not find the problem, at least give you some ammo to take to the dealership.

By the way, I don't mean to imply that you shouldn't stay on top of this. It might (probably is) something totally different. But, since the dealership didn't tell you to stop driving the car, you should be OK.

Dealers will fix the problem if there really is something wrong. Still I would also give it a bit of time for the car to settle down. The moment you take the car off the lot, chances are for getting a new one is pretty slim, but they will fix it.

If it is the sound I am thinking of, then it is compleatly normal for the Z. Both of mine made the same exact sound. Only when normally rolling away form a light or something at very low rpm's.

Just some clutch chatter I believe..

There is an extensive thread on this very subject if you do a search for "transmission noise" or "transmission rattle"...I cant remember which one. Lots of Z owners have this issue with the 6 speed. My Z is 2 weeks old, and it made this noise the moment I pulled it off the lot...I thought it was just me needing to get used to the clutch....bulls$it. I took it back the next day, and the dealer said the sound is NOT normal. I think the tranny will end up being swapped out for a new one. I would push your dealer to do the same for you.....the noise/rattle/vibration in 1st is not normal at all. Some people can put up with it, but I can't stand it. It is embarasssing when you pull up next to a hot chick or something...pull away...and your brand new car sounds like its going to fall apart!
