Default Retarded question to settle my paranoia

Hey folks,

Had a question to put my mind at rest. When you're driving the Z normally (ie not racing, just taking a slow start from a light), what RPMs do you have the car at when you start it moving? I ask b/c sometimes when I'm not paying attention I'm up at 2k, and after posts about short clutch life...I'm a little concerned that may be too high.

just let it out a little quicker at a lower rpm and get moving, it's not going to hurt the cluch and you will get smoother with practice. you're not going to hurt this clutch unless yu habitually slip it

2k during a regular launch? I'm usually around 700 to 1000 RPM. Like vic says, once in awhile is okay, but don't do it a lot. It will shorten the life of the clutch.

Approx 700 and as soon as I get going under 10 mph I try to shift to 2nd. The 6 gears are just so close that sometimes I'll just go 1st to 3rd rather than that extra shift.

Default My problem is

My problem is I'm so lead footed, every time I touch the accelerator I'm up at 1.5k (years of driving an automatic has apparently ruined my right foot!).

Any advice on practicing? I usually launch at about 1.5k but I let the throttle fall down a bit as I let the clutch out initially...I know this can't be good for the Z. ;-)

Mall parking lots on Saturday mornings are a good place to practice.

For normal driving you should be around 1000 rpms.
