when i started looking at them, i heard more HP, higher redline, dual intakes and liked how it looked... think about it the first year HR (07) is now 6 yrs old, the prices are coming down. i went with the 08 since it was the last year of the 350 and several thousand cheaper than the 370's

Couldn't find any HR's to test drive today, but then again I didn't really put forth too much effort into finding one around me. Maybe tomorrow I'll give it another shot.
I forgot I test drove a DE a while back and didn't think much of it, but that was probably because I didn't really get the time/space/room to really get on it. The salesman with me took me on his own little path.. which didn't involve any on-ramps lol.

I've owned a TT Z32 and loved it, especially after a few mods and an up in PSI.
If I could own a TT Z32 that wouldn't cause me as much issues as they (usually) do, and one that isn't as hard to work on, I would buy one in a heartbeat.

But since I've already owned a 32, I want to own a 33 as well.... then make a giant jump to the GT-R (probably not going to happen lol)

Had both DE and an HR. Yes, the extra bit is worth it. I won't go into detail unless you request me to, because we have threads like this every week. Research, make a decision, follow through.

honestly...with a couple more grand you can get a 370z. my brother got a nice 09 touring/sport package for $18k. it had 70k miles on it. but the interior quality is WAY better and the engine is even more responsive.

Haven't really considered a Nismo but I'd reaaally love one in black <3
Also, the more I look at the 370, the more I start to like the 350.. as far as the body and looks go. I still think the 370 looks sick, but I'm leaning more towards the 350 because I'm just a little bit more inclined to how it looks.

the 370z's lines make the 350z look kinda plain and old when compared side by side.

I dislike the 370 IMO. Post on page 1-- if you go w Fi- go e DE? wtf??

Depending on how much you are into modding etc. you'll be swapping DE parts for 06+ headlights etc like stated. If you ever go forced induction, you will be happy w the HR.
DE : stock block power ~400whp
HR : stock block power ~500whp
Done deal. If I were to do it again , id have a nismo modded up- 500-525whp=finished w a smile ;-)
GL w whichever decision you make as both will be fun.

Motordyne is the way to go! I am getting mine today In regards to a CAI, stick with the stock intake and put in a JWT pop charger. It will save you money and give you good gains. I have a 2004 Z and maybe it would be nice to have an HR, but in my opinion both cars are tons of fun for the road and you can make up for the horsepower with some mods if you want. Unless your looking at racing or autocross, I think you will be in love with either one.

Gains such as anywhere from -5 whp to 2 whp?

I've pulled on a DE with a list of bolt-ons when my HR was stock. I've said it a million times the 6,700rpm fuel cut is the worst thing about the DE.

Any redline above 6k is an upgrade for me, I own an e46 330 coupe right now, that I've done a few things to.
It's an extremely nice and quick car, and I love it. It's got the lightest 3.0 liter motor built, and it's also reliable. I have a lot of fun with it and get lots of compliments. I didn't really do any mods to it besides the full exhaust because it's basically impossible to make them reasonably faster without going F/I.
At the end of the day, I want something to have fun in without feeling guilty like I do in my nice BMW.. I want something I could push to the limit daily (if I wanted to, not saying I will) and not have to think about how expensive it'd be if something breaks. It's also much easier to whip the tail out on a Z, easier to go faster, and you can make it sound extremely nice (one of my favorite parts). The VQ motors are sick. I just want to be back in the Z game. Those are a few reasons I'm craving a 350.

If I can find a good deal on a black Nismo by the time I'm ready to buy a car.. there'll be a good chance I'll pick it up.

Buy the newest you can afford. The HR motor is definitely a superior motor for quite a few reasons and the newer interior is much better. Plus, buying a newer car will generally mean less problems overall.

You also have to keep in mind when the 2003 Nissan Z came out the 287hp was measured by the older SAE system, since then the system changed and the HR Z was rated under a new more stringent system which under-rated the horsepower, so the ~306 horsepower of an 07-08 is not measured the same way as the old HP, meaning the new Z has actually more than ~20hp power vs the 03 if you compare the two numbers, which is evident by a quick utube search. The actual power of the Hr if measured in 03' would be closer to 320

Here's my 2 cents.

I just recently purchased a Z and was looking for an HR but ended up getting a DE. I went for it because it had low mileage, was garage kept, and had been serviced at the dealership every 3,000 miles since 2006. I couldn't pass up a well maintained Z because there's waay to many of them out there that have been dogged to hell and back. Personally, I would look for a clean Z regardless of the motor. I don't regret getting a DE at all.. It's more than fast enough to put a grin on my face.

P.S. get a manual transmission.. was and still is one of the best decisions of my life haha
