Sports cars look great on the side of and SUV. I just don't know how people can get rid of a Z for an SUV, keep the Z and buy an SUV.

Oddly enough, you know you miss it and will be back haha
I don't know, when I drive my Z for a while I get back in the SRT and stick to it for a while, and think its way more fun to drive. As for the track, it would blow the Z away. Search the net, there's a comparison on there between the SRT and an Audi R8 V8. They say its not as odd comparison as it seems. With a tune and some minor mods it'll do 0-60 in 4 flat, and a mid-high 12 sec quarter mile. Mines on Eibachs, and handles like the Z. The brakes are unreal also.
As for towing, I have a hitch on mine. It's not hard to get a custom hitch done. Snow tires will help, just watch the front lip clearance. It's way less than the Z.
I think it's tough to understand the draw of it until you've spent time in one!

Is this the comparison? http://www.edmunds.com/audi/r8/2008/...ison-test.html

On the face of it the R8 seems to be significantly better for the track (better gs on skid pan, slalom speed, braking, and similar straight line performance).

I looked up 350z/370z purely as I would be surprised a car that much heavier and taller could blow away a Z on track - not sure if these are what you were thinking of but it seems both Zs have better skid pan/slalom/braking performance:

http://www.edmunds.com/nissan/370z/2...st-specs1.html
http://www.edmunds.com/nissan/350z/2...est-specs.html

I guess if it was a bit of a 'straight line hero' track the power would overwhelm any cornering advantage the Zs have?

Ii know it handles well for an SUV, my standard GC handles great, but there is no way it would touch a Z on the track, unless you're talking about monkey racing.

What I'm saying is I own both and the SRT is easier to drive faster, is way faster on power, and I can take corners and exit ramps faster and more confidently without tire slide. With the Eibachs, I also have 275/315 tires on it, maybe thats why. I also owned a GC Limited before that, and its absolutely nothing like the SRT version. It wouldn't touch a Civic on a track! Believe it or not, I bought the Z to commute in as I didn't want to mile up my other ride. I love the Z, but it just doesnt feel like youre driving something special, like the other one does. The OP will be happy with the new purchase, and still miss the Z.

The CFO of the company i work for has a 2013 Cayenne Turbo S. Very cool guy, known him for many years. Its less fun to drive than my 370Z. He also has an R8...which is just brilliant in every way. And M3 E36, which he claims is one of the most fun to drive cars ever made. And a 911...

I think its a push to say an SUV will take a track designed sports car on a road racing track.

I think it's a push to make that statement until you've driven it. Drive one, then it's an informed opinion.

Equal grip tires, a Z will kill it on a road course. Drag strip , not so much.

Maybe, maybe not. As much as Id like to agree with you and even just common sense says youre right. However, here are laptimes for a 2009 BMW X6M and a BMW Z4M:
