snow test drive
OK guys,
I appriciate your reccommendations on getting the snow tires, and I will most likely get them for next winter. I went out and bout four 70 pound bags of tube sand for my Z. I have the base model so it is the worst out there to help me deal with the snow. I live in the north suburbs of Chicago. Today we got about three inches of snow. So I took it out on the back roads of the burbs that were not plowed. The sand made a 100% difference. I could actually turn and hold the road, and the back end never came out on me at all.
For those of you guys that dont want to invest in the tires. The extra weight of the sand in the back makes a huge difference.

Here is an additional tip.
Put the bag(s) of sand in to a larger garbage bag in case of leaks.
Also pack a scoop or something. If you get stuck you can rip in to the bag of sand and use the sand for traction. If you have a garbage bag the sand won't get all over your interior if you need to open the sand.
One last thing, never use a hard weight for this. My buddy had an anvil in his camaro. It was helping with traction in the winter so he left it there. When some yahoo sideswiped his car the anvil nearly doubled the damage to the car when it became a projectile. He was also lucky it didn't come forward at him.

Something else that works that I noticed is to get a really heavy mdf enclosure built under your strut bar and stuff it with 2 JL Audio 10w6-V2s. That has seemed to be good for me.

I have pilot sports A/S 245 and 275 which are kinda big for snow but with 200# in the trunk I had no problem stop and go on 4in + of snow this morning. Make sure the fuel are full too thats extra 200# of weight right there.

yup best thing... i dont have a garage but i leave it in the driveway ...i turn it on every other day ,let it run...i live in north jersey and we got a foot and a half this morning....this is why when you buy a z..make sure you have a little more money for a beater... i bought myself a 95 grand cherokee... its an animal in snow.. and runs good.....i remember i did a mistake by backing out the z to clean the rest of the driveway.. and my driveway is on an incline... i couldnt get it back up... so i had to park it in some store's parking lot over night....so get a beater!

I also have Michelin pilot A/S tires 17s. Good in the snow. I was thinking about getting a beater for the winter but I drive only 4miles to work daily. If it gets really bad out. I just get a ride. Oh and of course I high pressure wash the Z weekly sometimes twice a week. Dont want the salt to corrode the Z.
