Question Few Geeky Questions . . .

Hey guys,
I love the Z, I have had it 5 days now with 600 miles on it. I love this thing to death. I have gotten soo many compliments I never would expect and alot of respect for the car. I am still awaiting the full 1,200 mile break in and i will be . Anyways just a few questions after driving the car for 5 days. I am not use to having non-auto lights. In my old grand am gt they had auto lights, so I never had to do anything. We'll the past 4 days it has been rainy and snowy and dark outside. So I have found out that I can just leave my HID lights on and when I get out of the car and lock it, they will go off after approximately maybe 5 minutes? I have not timed it, but have just noticed they stay on a pretty long while. Is this safe and ok to do this? I know I am lazy, but just a geeky question.

And also.. I haven't used this feature a whole lot, but the automatic window roll down with holding down the Unlock button for 3 seconds. Once I get out of the car is there anyway you guys know of to automatically hold down the lock button and make them go back up? Or any feature like that?

Thanks guys I really appreciate it!

* Also just a small note, i know there was some discussion before, my car I jsut got it Friday, I need to check the build date, but it does have the Leg padded rests in the center console on the driver and passenger side! just an update on that thing guys or the '04 model!

But no way from the keyfob? How hard would it have to been to make them auto roll up with the lock button like they did with the unlock button?

its a safety thing, not nissans safety either. its a law, unless it had resistance sensors what if a kids head was in the way, and you accidently pressed the button in your pocket ect. stupid yes, but someone will do it and sue.

you can use the light thing; wont hurt nothin. not sure of the exact time either, 3-5min sounds right. though I find it impossible to forget with that mind numbing buzzer that goes off.

Probably a safety feature so you do not accidentally roll them up with your g/f head sticking through the window? Just a thought!

yeah, it doesnt make sense that it wont go up with the lock button if they make it go down with the unlock button.

as far as the light thing goes, i guess it is ok to do it once in a while, because it will eventually go off, but you should get in the habit of turning it off yourself. if nothing else, it will save the life of the light bulb and the battery.

btw, congratulations on the new car. how do the knee pads attach? i dont remember seeing any attachment in the car, but then again, i specificallyl look for any.

The owners manually actually discusses the auto-off headlight feature. It pays to read the manual.

As far as the windows, I'm hoping there's a way to reprogram the thing to allow them to go up with the keyfob. My Audi came from the factory the same way (remote-down but no remote-up), but using a VAG tool I was able to reprogram it to allow remote-up as well. I'm also hoping I can program it to unlock both doors with one keypress rather than two.

Anybody have any info on that?

The reason there's no way to roll up the windows from the keyfob is that if you're not looking, somebody could get their hand stuck there. Not a pretty thought.

Sure, I agree. But I'm willing to override that safety feature if there's a way. I've had the remote window-up feature on my other car for years and no one has ever stuck there hand in it while it was going up.

I'm sure you could aftermarket it. I just don't think Nissan's ready for the liability suits if it made it possible.

Do you think there's really a lawsuit problem when the windows have pinch protection? Oh well, not a big deal. Hopefully someone will come up with a mod which allows it. Something similar to the Alientech module for VW cars.
