Default why isnt my car able to get a smog check?

I have a 2006 350z and im in so.california. I went to a certified smog station because i need a freakin smog check to get updated tags, sat for an hour while they did the test, then they come out and say my car isnt working with their dyno machine thing and told me to try somewhere else. wtf. they said their 'spx' system isnt the right one for my car. how could theynot have had one VQ go thru their? and how could they not know?

anyone else have issues with this?

also i have an injen cold air intake that i got a few months ago, am i gonna have any issues with this?

Sounds like you went to some "special" professionals. Find a different shop. They didn't charge you for wasting your time, did they?

Does your Injen CAI have the CARB sticker on it? Should pass visual fine with it. Any other exhaust mods?

didnt charge me. no other mods. and they didnt say the port wasnt working, just that their machines didnt work with the dyno test, and they tried 3 times. gonna do a different shop soon, but i may just drive an hour to city it was registered in so they dont have to do a dyno test*
the dyno test is just the normal smog test but on a dyno to simulate the car actually driving. but when done in the city it was registered in they dont have to that. smogging is literally the stupidest thing for cars ever. i didnt need to smog when i registered a car in wyoming, an i dont have to smog my 73 here, but my 06 Z needs a smog. wtf.

Did the state letter say you had to go to a STAR station? It's a smog only station that can't repair the car in the event of issues. It's not your average smog station. After your first couple smogs the state may send you to a STAR station. The state won't let you log in for smog if you're on a STAR cert and not at a STAR station.

When I had my 04 smogged a couple months ago, the tech had to try the test twice. The reason is because the computer program for the dyno requires that the engine RPM and roller speed needs to stay within a zone on the smog computer's program (upper/lower limit). If the engine rpm or speed goes outside the lines then the test is done and needs to be repeated. For my Z, the tech had to pop the clutch for the shift into 3rd gear in order to keep the rpms within the required zone.

The easiest solution is to go to another shop. If you need a recommendation, there's a Valero station in Orange that has a couple of good, experienced techs.

I had to have my 06 350Z smog tested this year and I had no issues. I would try another testing station.
