Shifter linkage noise? or something else
I have shifter linkage noise when going into 2nd and sometimes 3rd & you can clearly hear it from outside the car when it happens. I also noticed this on another Z. It's fine when you smash on the gas and go through the gears but at normal driving speeds it sounds like something is catching the linkage and making a noise. I also feel some kind of resistance in the shifter while throwing into 2nd & 3rd sometimes. Could a shifter alignment help? If anyone has any DIY link on shifter alignment i'll try it out tomarrow.

I have the same problem going into second gear too. It's smooth as butter when driving fast and flying through gears but some resistance when driving normally. Some people told me I had to match the revs perfectly, or its a common issue with the syncros, or I should just avoid 2nd gear all together if it bothers me that much. Either way, we're not the only ones who have the 2nd gear problem.
I've had that problem on my 2006 for a while. 2nd and 3rd have a mechanical sound when shifting, i bought a cheapo round shift (pretty sure the word is censored, lol) and it actually isn't as loud or frequent for some reason.

mine does the same thing, i assumed that it was sticking clutch pedal that had something to do with it. maybe not?
once i swap the master, if it does not go away i will be doing a clutch and flywheel, if it is still there... then i guess ill live with it.

Sound is normal.. our transmission is very loud and lets face it clunky ... I think it's very uncomfortable to shift the z just because of how the CD008 trans is.
I bought my z with 30k and it's always been this way. I think it's how they are designed, Nissan doesn't make the best standard transmission out there. The flywheel makes a ton of noise as does the throwout bearing.
My beater car shift quieter and smoother but it was built different.
