Ticking coming from tach.
Hey guys I have this ticking sound that i only hear under light to moderate acceleration coming from my tach. I only hear it once i get to 3k rpm and then the engine noise completely drowns it out. Just wondering if anybody else has had this happen to them and if there is a simple fix.
The tach is purely electronic, so there's nothing to make any noise like a cable-driven tach might make. The noise must be coming from something else. It's gonna be hard to find the source of the noise, since you can't hear it after it starts.
Simplest fix is to drive like I do (see my sig).

As Winchman suggests, the tach is electronic, so there is no mechanical cable. The needle, however, is mechanical and could be the source of the sounds you are hearing.
They are fairly delicate as I discovered; driving in Phoenix, with the roof down and the sun behind me, temperature about 105 degrees, both the tach and the speedo "froze" at their current readings. I put the roof up and turned on the A/C and they went back to working normally as soon as they had cooled down.
I suspect you may end up having to replace the tach, but I would first disconnect the wires from it to make sure that that is actually the source of the sound.
Hope that helps!
