If you looked in the glove box then it is possible it may be the fuel pump since it is in the tank under the glove box. I doubt that the noise came from there though. Did it sound like an exhaust sound?

if you can imagine this it sounds like some thin piece of aluminum hitting something...if youve ever had a fan shroud go loose then its kinda like that.

If it is the pump what can you do about that???

no that wouldnt be the pump then. maybe a loose exhaust mount or something.

or even the seatbelt banging?

might be the heat shield from your cats rattling?

although i only get this in the morning in my Z when it's cold (-25 celcius)... the noise disappears once the car's warmed up

i was in school this morning reading the motor trend from Nov of 2003. At the back of the "one last year" update the Z was mentioned. And it included some problems that were incountered and this is what was said "we noticed a metallic grinding noise from the rear of the Z and had it checked at the last service. Both rear-brake backing plates were loose and were tightened gratis by our dealer."

So anyone had this problem
