Competition Stage 2 Clutch and lightweight flywheel review
Alright, my 03 Z has 133k miles on her. No doubt I knew it was about time for a clutch replacement, especially since there was a little noise coming from the throwout bearing.
After alot of research and pricing and finding where I could get a good deal, I decided to go with a Competition clutch and competition lightweight flywheel. I found a post on here where THMotorsports was offering the combo for $599 shipped which I was totally willing to pay. However, I found after going to their website and talking to a representative, I was told that that was a special that they are no longer running and that they would not honor it. This ticked me off a bit so I kept looking around. They were still offering the combo for a decent price so I called and asked what it would cost to upgrade to a Stage 2 clutch and flywheel combo, $705 shipped . Long story short, thats what I went with.
BTW, I highly reccomend THMotorsports, they have great prices and the people are good to, I have ordered 4 clutches and my intake spacer from them, all of which were great quality at a great price.
Anywho, I am not going to go through the entire clutch install because that has been covered. I will say that this is the easiest to remove transmission that I have ever worked on. What I really want to point out though, is that our cars have a sensor similar to a crank position sensor that reads off the flywheel. I've seen that many aftermarket flywheels have the timing indicator hole on the front and the back of the flywheel... The competition did not. When I installed the flywheel the first time, I wasn't paying close enough attention and misaligned the timing hole. This caused the timing to be over advanced and threw a check engine light, codes P0011 and P0012 (Camshaft Position Sensor banks 1 and 2 timing over advanced). At first I thought it was because one of my cam sensors was pssng oil. I fixed that, cleared the codes and it was fine for about 5 miles. At this point I realized what had probably happened.
After dropping the transmission for a second time, I got it lined up correctly and now it runs great. The clutch has a stock pedal feel but grabs much harder and you can definitely feel the difference that the lightweight flywheel makes. I would highly reccomend this setup for the price, totally worth the $705 rather than spending almost $1k on a comparable ACT, Clutchmasters or JWT setup. (Not that I'm bashing on JWT, he makes great products and I also highly reccomend JWT, however, for the price I had to go with this)
I have included a picture of the backside of the Competition flywheel, the timing indicator is the smaller hole between the regular flywheel bolt holes. There is a similar hole on the engine side that it is supposed to match up to. If it does not get matched up correctly, you will throw codes P0011 and P0012.

I think it is partially due to the fact that my slave cylinder needs replaced (doing that tommorow) but it is very streetable to me. Granted, I don't think it is fully engaging due to my slave but we will see once that is done.

be sure to let us know what you think about it after driving it a little with a new slave in, I am looking at doing a lightweight flywheel and clutch in a few month, and am starting to research the options.
