Default Cummins Powered 350z Anyone?

So, someone just posted this on FB. My first thought was, who cares, it looks like every other ugly Nissan Frontier. Then I saw that it was powered by a diesel 4 cylinder... and my next thought was... who will be the first person to swap this into a Z? Imagine just turning the boost up a little bit, or building it for more power. It would be a Z like no other!

Think what he was saying was....

The new frontier truck has the 4cyl Cummins motor
And the op wants somebody to put that Cummins in the Z. But he should do it first and let us know how it goes.

There are little eco-box-car diesels that don’t weight much more than their gas powered counterparts, but this type of Cummins heavy-duty style engine weights anywhere from 800 to 1000 pounds fully dressed and installed. About twice that of an all alloy LS chevy V8. Do you think the Cummins Z would be a good handling sports car ?

Other than the weight issue it'd be a neat swap. Who cares if the purists don't like it; it'd be original and very cool. Some S13 guy put a Cummins 4BT in his car:

It would be like no other - a sluggish sack of sh*t. Give your head a shake.

Diesel engines can provide surprisingly good performance. BMW equips one of their larger sedans with a diesel engine that is very fast. Another advantage diesels provide is great torque. If you are pulling a heavy load (i.e., a trailer), a diesel is wonderful.

But, equipping a light weight sport car with a heavy diesel engine is foolish. A light car doesn’t need that amount of torque for acceleration or towing, and the extra weight is self-defeating.

A light weight car benefits from fast delivery of full power. You want torque, but you want it fast. You get that from an electric engine. That is the reason Porsche is developing/running a hybrid race car. The electric engine delivers full power instantly, and the gas engine drives the steady run.

I would definitely be interested in a 370z hybrid if it’s designed for performance.

So I can tow my Z with my other Z?

I just thought it'd be an interesting build lol. No exact engine specs released, but here I found it weighs 475lbs.

I like high efficiency 4 cylinders, and I like diesel. This particular engine just seems very interesting, not your run of the mill US-spec engine. Sort of European almost.

No big argument here since it’s so obvious.

Just so you know, mounting a diesel engine in a light weight sporty car is totally stupid with no redeeming benefit. Duh!!

Just saying, sometimes we need to think outside the box. Even if this particular engine isn't a good fit. I just find diesel impressive. Although I admit the FI aspect is responsible for a lot of that performance.

Oh diesel is badass....which why I chose to purchase the 04' 5.9 Cummins that'll last 1/2 million miles or more w better fuel eco than gasoline engines..But not sure about the swap into the Z (4cyl I mean).

Being that my last vehicle was a 98 cummins 5spd 400hp... a 4bt swap would be sweet if you had the time and money...a lot of custom drivetrain work and mounts... a lot of torque... somebody with a retarted amount of money will do it...hell 2jz, k56, ls series motors lets top it off with a diesel lol

Seems like a big downgrade to me. Yeah you'll be unique but not in a good way. What will be really unique is if someone around here got a lot of spare cash and free time on their hands to make a mid engine Z33 or one equipped with the KERS system like in F1. That would be unique as fack. Expensive but unique.
