FREAK ACCIDENT? help...please?
Sigh. Well I live on a hill, and today when i came home from school I parked my car like always pulled the e-brake went inside. about an hour later, my neighbor busts through my door telling me my car is in the middle of the highway.....Obviously i tell em stop joking, low and behold, my car someone how rolled down the street and smashed into the highway.
Im very....very. very sad. To the people who are going to say why didnt you leave it in gear, the answer is because im use to cars with remote start. I was able to reverse the car back up the block and into my drive still runs buy pretty messed up. Insurance will not cover this. Im guessing my next plan of action is to look for someone parting out, and get the frame work done. If anyone has any input please let me know. I live in pennsauken nj.

I can only imagine how you're feeling right now. That is just terrible luck that this happened to you. Glad that nobody was hurt in this incident. I actually never leave my car in gear for the most part since there really isn't any hills in Florida but damn after seeing this I might have to make it a habit... Good to hear that you're alright, best of luck to you OP.

Sorry to hear that man but that's not much of a freak accident. Leaving it in gear on an incline trumps remote start all day every day. Good luck getting it back together.
EDIT: I reread and noticed that you are used to cars with remote start, I thought it said you didn't put it in gear because you installed remote start.

Well crap… I hate seeing something like this and understand your pain.
When I park incline or not, (1) I set the parking brake, (2) put the car in reverse (if jumping back on a starter turn is safe) or first (if jumping forward on a starter turn is safe), and (3) turn the front wheels in the direction preventing a “runaway.”

yea just liablity with my age, cant come close to affording full coverage. To the people that say stupidity, but ive read numerous numerous threads here and on other websites, not one mentioned an inferior parking brake. And I also stated why Im used to not leaving the car in gear, because i had a car take off on me when someone pressed my remote start.
I would sell you the hood also lol, got chipped a lil tho. sigh.
Also can anyone provide insight on why or how a parking break could do this? I tested the parking break when i got the car to my drive way and it works fine. When i found the car down the street the doors were still locked and the parking break was still engaged. This is why im so baffled.

Manufacturers thoroughly test the emergency/parking brake. A car company cannot afford a suit charging them with a faulty emergency brake. You do not need it just to park safely; you may need the emergency brake if your driving brakes fail.
A parking brake is compromised when a driver operates the car while the e-brake is engaged. It happens frequently, and it is the reason for almost all emergency/parking brake failures.
You can easily test your emergency brake: park on a steep hill, engage the parking brake, and put the car in neutral. If the car moves down the hill, obviously the emergency brake isn’t holding.

OP. If you couldn't afford full coverage, then you can not afford to own a Z. Lesson learned here. Sorry you didn't put your Z in gear when parking on an incline. That's owning a manual 101 common sense.
^yep fell off, and I love how on all the forums people love to berate people. I cant own a Z cause im not rich enough to afford full coverage, and this has absolutley nothing to do with my driving. If i even suspected for a second my parking brake was not holding I wouldnt have left it there obviously. And i even tested the parking brake afterwords and it works. Was it dumb? maybe so, but one reason I hate people on these forums is people would rather insult, then offer any kind of meaningful input. In a few years Ill have my degree, in a few years, money wont be an issue. In a few years full coverage will be standard. But right now, Ill gotta deal with this.
