Default How can I fix a wheel scrape?

My dealer called me before I went to get my Z last weekend, and said he just wanted me to know (before I traveled 500 miles) that my car has a small scrape on the edge of the right front wheel. Before I could even think how I should react, he said they are going to ship me a new 18" wheel ASAP.

The scrape is very minor, and it really doesn't bother me. It's about 1/4" long, right on the edge of the wheel rim. But it did cut through the paint on the wheel, and I'm afraid it's just going to spread like cancer as more of the paint begins to come off in the surrounding area over time.

Is there any way to prevent this little scrape from getting worse? Can I apply some touch-up paint? I think someone told me once that clear fingernail polish would work, but that sounds dubious to me. Thanks for any suggestions!

If they are shipping a new one, then what do you care? I mean it may start to spread over time, but not seriously within the month or less (hopefully) it takes to get a new wheel in, right?

Default I wonder

I wonder if they are scraping the wheels against the ramp edges on the carriers? I guess everyone should inspect them carefully.

Because I'm not gonna put the new one on right away. I know at least one wheel will get messed up eventually, so I'll just leave this one for now, and keep the new one in reserve. Or maybe I'll swap the new one in the rotation when I get new tires.

Ahh, I just figured the dealer would take the other one when they gave you the new one. Dealers aren't known for being overly generous.

I get to keep the damaged one. I will have one extra now. Pretty cool, huh?

weird philosophy ..

lemme get this straight .. your gonna keep your damaged rim on your car cause you expect that one of your rims will eventually get a scrape or other type of damage to it ???

why not just put the new rim on and keep the damaged one as a backup?
