No one could afford working on the 300zx, so that's what happened there
350's are stupid cheap right now and to be honest, all the ones I looked at before I bought mine, were complete JUNK.
After sifting through 100's of local z's in Florida, I chose to look at a few that advertized well:
#1 - old guy, used to race corvettes - 06 105k miles, horrible grinding into 4th and 5th, was broken into at least once, ran like garbage, all of the front dash was cracking - $7800 LOL
#2 - Younger kid - said the clutch was new - ran like ****, throwout bearing chattering, brakes were shot, control arm felt like it was going to fall off, "new" paint was HORRIBLE, interior ripped up - $7500
#3 - Getting a little better - mid 20's guy around my age, blue vert, great paint, new top but wouldn't go down but no biggie there, some interior issues but none the less, ok car - $7300
#4 - 50 year old lady, new clutch flawless paint but was in minor fender benders (had new bumpers f and r), bad rotors but had a flawless engine, flawless interior and ran amazing. $7200
Guess which one I got for $6300? yep, #4 one of the tires was showing wires... so I got her husband to come down in price lol
Been a fantastic car ever since! Now has 133k miles new stoptech brakes and 370z wheels... just awesome.
350z's are super cheap now compared to when I bought mine 4 years ago. I looked at close to 50 online but only test drove 2.
#1 2003 base with 89k miles - $9500 but mechanically needed a lot of work, looked very worn
#2 2006 enthusiast with 48k miles - $14,100 mechanically sound, unmolested
went with the 2006. Kind of wish I would have waited another year or two to get one at a better price so I could have put more money into it but at the same time I've loved having my Z for so long.
I've had mine since Jan 04. There has been an 'elite' on this forum since I joined. They decide what is tasteful and what is not, what is right to do and what is not. Here is how I feel.
You own the car, do whatever the heck you want.
Drive like an idiot and smash it up, more and cheaper parts for me used, decreases amount of 350Zs on the road, making them 'more rare'.
Buying aftermarket parts - keep buying, keep the market alive.
I remember seeing a Corvette with Ferrari badges on it. Good for a laugh.
It's all good. Lighten up, let people have fun. People who are bothered are most likely the same people that try to control what another person does on their own property. They make life hell for everybody else. Worst kind of person IMHO.
It happens with all cars. That's just the way it is.
You got people who think they are ballers rolling early escalades. People think they are ballers rolling early Chrysler 300's. People who are drift kids rolling cheap 350's. People think they are pro drag racers in 90's mustangs and camaro etc etc.
I don't really care who is buying 350z these days , people young and old modify cars in ways one may consider to be tacky or rice . But at the end of the day it's there car and if they like that's all that matters . Just enjoy your z and don't worry about others .
I had a huge red and white sticker across the dash of my '89 Plymouth Sundance that said "Stay Popular" in bubble letters (like a mix between the "So Clean" and "umadbro" fonts).
