Profit for the dealer. Not always so for the A. M. insurance provider. Let the dealer know you're shopping around & cost of the policy goes way down.
$1,600 for extended warranty on my first owner '08 Z, will expire in Oct. '15. About $600 ahead at this time--- driveshaft (47k mi., one month after Nissan warranty lapsed), bank 2 O2 sensor (July. '14) and new rear subframe (leaking differential bushing, Aug.'14). Got a free 4-wheel alignment out of that one.
Guy from Zurich Ins. comes down, looks at the car on the lift. We chat for a few and my car gets fixed. That's with some S-Tune aero, Work XD-9's, Invidia Gemini. Full S-Tune suspension, Nismo R-Tune CAI, Uprev tune and South Bend clutch/solid flywheel. Has more photos of my Z than I do. :-)
Also a '12 Honda w/8 yr. bumper to bumper, 120k miles. Honda Care program, oil changes incl. $1,400. Happy camper here, no unanticipated expenses.
That's (both vehicles) a cumulative 196k covered miles bumper-to-bumper. 15 years of ownership, total $3k. Roll of the dice but think it through, odds are probably stacked in favor of the long-term owner.
To keep the thread from derailing: OP if you're under an after market warranty, should any non OEM add-ons be identified as the cause of any problems you're SOL.

Well, Spike, you seem to be an intelligent guy so I'm pretty sure you already know the answer.
Have a good New Year, BTW.
Rajiv Z33: Welcome to the forum. Three years/36,000 miles is full Nissan warranty, 5/50k for drivetrain. With all warranties, you break it, you bought it.

Regards, Terrasmak: With apologies to the OP for my continued but hopefully mild thread drift, "adjusters are normally ASE master techs" is new-to-me information. Last four vehicles have had extended warranties through the dealership, never a problem with repair coverage.
Recently gifted my "old" '02 Ranger to my son when he was between jobs & having car problems. In the 126k miles I put on it the only needed repair was for a faulty injector. Lost $$ on that one. Great little truck. Win some, loose some.
OP: To the best of my knowledge neither a spacer or CAI have been cause for denial of warranty coverage. Plenum spacers are reported to provide a modest performance improvement, the CAI not so much. You'll probably notice a lower MPG due to the nice growl you'll hear when you go WOT.
Tell us more about your Z?

My friend that does this was called in about a turbo Miata once. They popped the motor on the drag strip while squeezing it. The shop and owner were working together to hide the evidence, didn't work.
My answer/experience is based on only one guy and three "extended warranties." I'm not sure that qualifies as a scientific sample.
Thanks for kind New Year wishes.
