Hi, I know I screwed up, but after revving very high after a cold start.

My engine started a strong knocking sound, it almost sounds like something fell off in a cylinder and is knocking the cylinder itself.

The noise goes up in frequency with rev, the idle rpm is still very stable, but the throttle response seems very very slow, and the car is clearly slower than normal.

Also, I had a grinding 3rd gear, but I do know if transmission is the problem here.

That is a very bad sound. Your camshaft is ruined, and your valves are "toast."

You are looking at an engine rebuild or buying a rebuilt engine.

 

Motor is trashed

 

do a compression test.

report to us the compression readings.

drain the oil and remove the oil pan check for metal shavings.

then go from that information.

its hard to diagnose a car just by sound can be plenty of symptoms dont jump the gun until you get concrete facts.

@misaka "after revving very high after a cold start." this is like saying "after having sex with that prostitute I got aids." cold starting a car and reving it up is begging to throw something.

So you high revved your car cold, how bout somebody shakes you from a deep sleep then you run a marathon. Doesnt sound like that would be fair way to treat you does it?

 

Its not cold unless your car tells you it's cold... Thats going to be an expensive mistake though... Can only do that with rental cars or something still under warranty.

 

the sound hes experiencing was something "kind of similiar" except mines was deeper sounding from the exhaust during the break in period of my engine. it turned out to be piston slap though not really a big deal only happened during cold startup and once the car got warm my sound went away.

 

Why in the hell would you rev the **** out of your car on a cold start?
