Default 350z 2004 bymistake shifted to lower gear !

Is it a big issue if i shifted from 3rd gear to 2nd instead of 4th while hard run.?
There isnt been any problem in engine or transmission after that though..just curious to know what bad can happen when you do this?

Did you go over redline?
If not then no.
If yes, then yeah it COULD cause tons of issues. How far over?

My friend bent 4 valves on my Civic when he went from 3rd to 2nd at redline.

Immediately could tell something was wrong though.

If no check engine light and everything seems fine I wouldn't be too worried. If it was going to cause damage it would have already happened.

I just recommend keeping an eye on your oil level until next oil change.

How the hell do you accidentally go from 4th to 2nd? Sounds like he doesn't know how to drive at all.

I meant 4th to 1st sorry lol

But no this kid slayed it with his driving, and I don't say that often. I still will never forget the day we were getting on the freeway on ramp and the POS flipped it sideways and drifted the entire on ramp.

Scared the living **** out of me and he laughed and went on like it was NBD.

Yes but if you put your mind to anything you can achieve it. Seen a lot of Honda guys go from 2nd back to 1st and they have lockout.

No lockout on downshifting into 1st on my CD009 trans. I've got a long private driveway that's somewhat bumpy, and I always downshift from 2nd to 1st as I turn in.

Guess his didn't. I thought the same thing but it happened.

It also happened to me once as well in my mustang, I was getting off the freeway. Thank god it was my first car and I knew that thing inside and out from driving it for 8 years. Just the way it went in didn't feel like the 3rd motion I was use to.

Popped it out into neutral and back in, then it went to where 3rd should be and felt it engage to the left aka actually in 3rd that time. I was like HOLY-F***... That would have been BAD!

I swore any other time it gave me resistance and would have to be forced in. But it went in like it was any other gear.

Depends on how fast you were going and how bad you mechanically over revved the motor.
