Average oil pressure for a 2003 Nissan 350z?
Hi Im brand new to the forums and I just purchased a Z yesterday and have been trying to learn stick shift for the first time on it.
I've noticed that consistantly the gauge will stay at around 120 for oil PSI so I'm just wondering if this is normal. It will be sometimes lower than that and then rise when accelerating.
And just this morning, after starting it up and letting it warm up for a while I took it for a drive and it stayed at a solid 120.
My dad insists its the way im driving it since im still trying to get used to the clutch but I'm not too sure because I've read about the sensors going out.
Thanks!

oil pressure guage should range from 10-30 on idle. Anything over 60 should be under acceperation only.
Make sure you have the correct weight oil and filter and your oil system is working properly.
But there is no standard, mine averages 30 idle and 80 under acceleration. My friends use to idle at 10 then go up to 100 on acceleration. Z's oil pressures are all over the place.

well...sorta...if you want to call the FSM specs a standard than there is a standard.
I'll be the first to admit if my pressure is close to what OEM specs than I call it good - many factors that influence
Page LU-7
engine speed, under no load, at operating temp ...
idle - 14psi
2k rpm - 43psi
6k rpm - 57psi

Yea I just meant there is no standard when you literally go to a meet and ask everyone what their pressures are.
Like I said 5 co workers have Z's and almost none of us had the same pressures. So you can't just go off OEM specs and say NO MY Z IS BROKEN!!
We kind of wonder how inaccurate these OEM gauges are honestly. Cause aside from one kid all our cars and motors are in good shape and work fine and don't burn oil like crazy. But then again the kid who burnt oil had the highest pressures. Which might be why it's getting into his intake mani.

So it turns out actually that the gauge is bad actually, when I flick it, it jumps back down to around 60 when accelerating and 30 when idling. The car is at almost 90000 miles and runs royal purple.

Basically from all the testing mobile and Castrol were the top oils. And standard synthetic Pennzoil yellow bottles which I used at the time was one of the absolute worst.
Look into legit tests and see the difference. But the only thing I put in my car now is either GTX Or Mobile premium synthetics.
I'm not saying you should use those 2 but all I will beg of you is don't use royal purple, or standard penzoil yellow bottle. And always use synthetic. Everything else just go off what you feel is "better". But those are legit the worst.

The pressure gauge fails "high" when the oil pressure sending unit fails. Replace the sending unit and everything should go back to normal on the gauge. The cost is about $45.
