Just bought a new set of NT05R drag radials. Single best purchase I have made to date- though I wouldn't be able to use them without all of the other power adding goodies purchased over the past few years...

Anyway... I used to just flat foot 3-4th gear since my MPSS 295's did not have enough grip to let me floor it in 2nd gear.

Fast forward to now, and my tires allow me to floor it in 2nd + sometimes first. With warmer temps and low tire pressure she will hook first.

My question is... Is anyone flat foot shifting 1-2? I am confident I will be able to flat foot 2-3 now, but 1-2? Is it worth it? I am asking both for fun on "closed roads" and at the drag strip... Opinions?

 

Unless I'm racing a car equipped with a dog-ring gearbox, I don't power shift, even at the start of a race when gaining position is critical. In particular, the beautifully built syncromesh 6-speed gearbox in the Z is not designed for it. No telling how much extra wear and damage is being done and a catastrophic failure is only a question of when, not if it'll occur.

 

You're totally right. I'm asking for it. I don't anticipate this car lasting very long as it is. I would replace a tranny, but when the engine lets go I think I'll be looking into other hobbies now that I have gotten this FI thing out of my system.

In mean time I want to give 'er all she's got at the strip once or twice this year, then cruise on through the summer hitting shows and what not. Just want to get this year out of it and I'll be satisfied. Cruising around in the summer next year would be icing.
