Default Performance Upgrades

So after the few days of owning the car. Ive noticed it’s got great power and I love how it feels. But naturally a car guy always wants more. So, what I’ve been searching is this;

A 5/16 plenum spacer, and this intake manifold coupled with probably an exhaust (Invidia N1), a lower intake from Motordyne (I think it’s from them I may be incorrect), an oil catch can, and possibly high flow cats, a tune and a throttle body spacer, would grant me more useable mid range power?

I have been watching “AnthonyJ350” on YouTube and some other 350z guy channels to learn what and what not to do. From the experience here, what do you all think of this?
I don’t want anything to dramatic because I do want to make it a nice second daily driver that’s got some power. Budget isn’t the biggest but isn’t the smallest. Any tips please do share.

Thanks!

Honestly you’re better off just investing in coils or suspension than those “power” mods.

With those you won’t feel a difference with out a tune. You’re good with the exhaust. Maybe even look into headers/cats instead.

If you REALLY want a little power boost get a tune. That’s where 98% of your power comes from is a good solid tune.

I will go with a time after doing these mods if I even do them. Although, running these without a tune is safe and does increase power from driver feel. From what I’ve watched. As for suspension. I’m honestly impressed with how she rides. I don’t have much if any desire to upgrade it.

Unless you have a Rev up, don’t bother with the MREV2 and use the money saved for a tune

Aloha! I installed the 5/16” Motordyne spacer just today and it definitely makes the car quicker. I have a DE motor, I didn’t get the isothermal version- just the plain one- and it’s an easy and effective upgrade. I’ve seen people debating whether it’s worth it and I have no idea why they’d do that: it’s an *obvious* increase in power. I’d guess 8-10 HP up above 4500 or so. Sounds way better too.
There’s a lot of mods you can do to improve the Z, but not any that cost less than $225 that gets you this much improvement...that’s basically the cost of a single nice tire!

I would just be careful on who you listen to on the internet on anything...not to say those guys dont know what their talking about but just give everything a sanity check.

There are plenty of people on the forum who have done what you are wanting to do - use them as blueprints & road maps for your build.

The spacer helps but the tune will make the biggest impact...

I'd also see what you can do to lighten up the car...it wont be much but if you can take 100lbs to 150lbs off the car it'll move a little quicker. For instance - a light weight battery (-20lbs), remove the spare/tools/add a can of fixaflat(-50lbs), lighter wheels (-15lbs), lighter exhaust (-30lbs), etc...

I watch the Anthony350 guy too and he seems knowledgeable. I used his video to install the plenum spacer. One cool thing about him is that lately he does a Sunday evening chat (around 6pm Pacific time) on his YouTube channel where you can ask questions and get input on whatever topic you’re interested in.

Yup. Tho Anthony and lots of other channels do have good instruction videos and info at times. Most of the kids have 0 real world experience and do nothing more than google or look up other peoples forum step by steps and pass it off as their own knowledge when as they film they’re learning them selves.

Like B said careful for what you view as gospel on the internet. ESPECIALLY from kids on YouTube. Half of them just got their driving permit but some how teach people how to drive/work on them. Lol

Well...I know what you mean but you could argue that we’re ALL on the internet.

Best bang for buck NA mods:

Plenum spacer, test pipes, cat back, tune. End of story. I paid an extra ~$3000 for more parts than yielded maybe 20whp.

Focus on suspension. My car changed most with a decent set of shocks and springs as well as full Whiteline bushings. Those make the car a joy to drive on any road.

Well when they are usually younger than or close to the same age as me I just refer to them as “kid”. I also just use the term a lot Lol

Not ALWAYS said in a negative way.

ohhh me likey lol. I didn’t even think of a throttle body. I think I’m going to leave the stock air intake. I just replaced the standard DIRTY AF filter with a K&N one. Much more whistling is heard I love it.

DO NOT get an air filter that comes pre-lubed. The petroleum will get on the MAF sensor and start to deteriorate it. A simple dry paper one will suffice.

I bought a K&N. I LIGHTLY sprayed the oil on it. Two light passes.

Get the plenum spacer, OR the kinetix plenum. Not both. Ditch the throttlebody spacer.

Get a tune. Best bang for your buck in noticeable all around gains. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
