battery cable too hot
my son has a 2005 350z, and the positive battery cable is way too hot. any ideas whats heating it up? so hot, will burn the fingers. he said the negative cable too hot as well. also, the car wont start, lights and gages work. Starter doesnt even try to bust off. Have checked battery, has good charge.

Sounds like a winding or something starting to short to ground. Is it hot all the time or only when you try to start the car? Or when the keys in the on position and not trying to start?
Battery cables heating up mean(s) something is messed up with the wiring. Usually a fuse or fusible link will blow if something is reversed but i guess it’s possible someone put a 40amp fuse in a 10amp breaker...
You said the starter won't start? it's probably Starter Sol is stuck on creating the cables to get hot. Probably needs a new starter. I've had this happen on a customers older toyota....touch the starter if you can and if it's hot to the touch as well then that is your issue. Otherwise....there is a short somewhere.
High resistance or high current somewhere. I would check your grounds for corrosion/broken wires and also check your fuses to ensure nothing is blown/melted or replaced with a higher amp fuse. Also, a faulty starter that is drawing excessive amount of current can cause your no start/hot cable condition.
