Default 2005 350z rough idle / lost power

Just recently my 2005 350Z has started sounding different when you first turn it on and it has been idling really rough.
I tried to give it a pull in 2nd and once it gets to just under 3k RPM in any gear and then there is just no power and the RPM keeps climbing but the acceleration is not there at all.
I was on flat ground and was sitting at 5k RPM in 2nd and only going around 60km/h.
I believe the car is in some sort of limp mode as the fuel usage is way up too and currently sitting at 17.5L/100km. The car has just under 97,000kms.

Have you tried pulling any codes? Your Z is equipped with a sophisticated diagnostic system that you can interface with.

The car has not got the check engine light on.

Have tried 2 bluetooth dongles and also some cheap code reader with a screen and none of them can bring up any data from the car.
I have read that some models of the car have ODB2 port but it isn't activated for some reason?
On mine I plug in the bluetooth dongle and it lights up and I connect over BT but can't read any codes or data at all from torque.
Tried the same dongles in my mums Mazda6 which had check engine light and could read the O2 sensor code was being tripped and also could see heaps of information readouts.

Does this mean I have to buy the expensive nissan diagnostic tool to interface with my car?

Check engine light may not be on, but codes may be held in memory. You access the diagnostic system via the OBD2 port- all Z33 models have them. You may need to use a more sophisticated code reader.

Alright fair point, just ordered a dumb ODB2 -> USB cable and will try it with EcuTalk on the PC. Fingers crossed I can get a code out of it.
