Default Neutral Coast=Died?

Howdy,

So this happened twice on my way home from work today.

Coming up to a stop sign, I was in 6th gear and dropped it into neutral to coast.

Suddenly my car died, All the lights on the dash came on. The car started up fine again.

Would anyone happen to know why? Is something wrong?

Too many possibilities to give you an answer.

Is your check engine light on?

Yeah but it's been on due to my neutral safety switch acting up When I put it in neutral my reverse lights kick on for some odd reason. A shop suggested a pigtail connection.

I wouldn't think this would be doing it though.

I ask about the CEL because it is always a good place to start. With the light having already been lit up prior to this you may have additional codes that are being thrown that you do not know about. I would begin by completing a re-scan to see if you have any new codes other than you NSS codes from before.

Yeah, I'll stop by an Autozone and have it scanned. Hopefully, it's nothing if something just minor.

I'll update later.

I would next look at your crank shaft and cam shaft position sensors. If you feel like spending $200 put new OEM or Hitachi brand only (let me know if you need the hitachi parts number) sensors on the car.

I would also clean your MAF sensors with MAF cleaner you can get at the parts store when they scan the codes.

This is your car - yes, other people may be working on it but it's your responsibility to double check that things (at a minimum) look right … take responsibility.
