Default Mice ate fuel pump wires - What can I plug the area with ?

Behind the drivers seat and behind the stock Bose Sub woofer is a compartment with a "trap door". Remove 4 bolts and the trap door cover can be removed to get at the fuel pump (and wiring).
Unfortunately, mice can get up into this area from beneath the 350Z.
.
(Without the cover in place, road noise is loud.)
.
I am thinking about stuffing insulation or some type of barrier everywhere under the fuel pump cover to prevent mice from getting in there . . . . and to perhaps quite everything somewhat.

Comments or suggestions ?

Thanks.

I think ya'll are under-estimating the rodents, if they want to get in they WILL get in. They can gnaw through almost anything and can fit through holes the size of a nickel.
For those reasons I'd go with chicken wire and mothballs and an adopted cat from a shelter. GL!

Used to plug kitchen drain holes in cabinetry with steel wool. Was effective for that, not sure about in an area where there's electrical connections though. Then again, a mouse, an electrical connection nearby.... sounds intriguing. I can already hear Emeril shouting "BAM!"

I like the steel wool idea. Perhaps stainless steel.

I considered spray foam but it’s messy and a little too permanent.

Update . . . . .
There was a time when my car was parked outside and open to the possibility of mice damage. Not anymore, she is safe in my basement.
However, I recently discovered that mice had (at one time) built a nest under my battery tray. This is a very dangerous area for mice damage because of all the battery and other wires that are in there. I only discovered it when I had to remove the battery tray. Fortunately only 2 of my wires had slight damage, and It was easy to repair.
.
I am posting this only to possible help someone who may have mice or electrical gremlins.

I had a rodent living under my battery also. I had to give them an eviction notice.
