Fuel Pump Upgrade
I want to upgrade my fuel pump with the Walbro pump. Just wanted to know how hard is it to get to and replace the fuel pump? Is there any DIY for this?
Download a copy of the Service Manual from http://carfiche.com/manuals007/
It has complete instructions on removing the fuel pump assembly. BTW, it's located inside the gas tank.

It is behind the passenger seat, you have to remove the bottom cover inside the storage compartment.
First you have to relieve the pressure in the fuel system by pulling the pump fuse and starting the car a few times until it just dies out as soon as it starts or wont start, usually 3 times or so will do.
Then remove the screws holding the ring that holds the pump down, disconnect hose to pump, then remove the pump assembly being careful with the oring it deforms if it gets wet, you might want to have a new one just in case standing by.
Once you have the assembly out the pump is held in by a little basket, remove that and the pump will come out. Now you have to modify that little basket to enlarge the slots so it will re-engage once you have the new pump in place which is longer so the basket wont clip in place unless you modify it, once you modify it enough so the new pump will allow it to hook in place reinstall.
Try to do this with a low fuel level as it makes it a little less messy.

Buy a new rubber o-ring gasket. The one that goes around the top of the fuel pump assembly. If any gas gets on it it expands and should not be re-used. There is a DIY for the modification somewhere on the net, I will try to find it.
