Oil Light Pops On
Just an update for everyone: Changed PCV valve and did another oil change after 550 miles. I was able to pull 2 and a half quarts out this time instead of 1.2. I am wondering if anyone has any idea what the issue is before I tear down and rebuild the motor or buy a low mileage used one? Thank you for the help everyone.
But as a check, your are not leaking anywhere underneath? Good to check if there are any wet spots around the engine? Common areas would be valve covers, front/rear main seals, camshaft sensor, spark plug #6. almost 3 quarts gone in 550 miles is pretty tough. I'm not saying that you'll recover anymore than a full quart in these areas but good to see if you are leaking.
There are no wet spots anywhere. Pulled the spark plugs and it's dry in there so the motor is burning it plus the mix of it coming out of the tailpipes. Was hoping there would be a fix that didn't involve replacing/rebuilding the motor
man! I've seen some VQ35DE motors for sale on FB marketplace around MA.
Hey Tom,
It's either your valve stem seals or piston rings or both. Before pulling the engine, get a leak down test done at a reputable shop in conjunction with a compression test. The results should allow you to determine the main issue(s).
Good Luck!
