Default oil light comes on briefly when......

My oil light comes on for a brief second when i turn a corner hard or step on the brakes hard..... anyone have any idea if that might be normal or if that truly means i should check my oil...... obviously i'm going to check my oil when i get the chance after work..... but i didn't have time since i just noticed this morning on my way to work. Thanks for any info!

It's happened to me twice so far and it's usually close to my next maintenance. I've had to add oil the 2 times and it freakd me out.

Sounds like you probably need to add a bit of oil if it is reading low under driving conditions.

haha ok.... my Z has 26k miles on it and i bought it when it had 23k miles. so i'm guessing 3k miles, it's about time for an oil change. The dealer told me i didn't have to change the oil for 7,500 miles??? i don't want to listen to that for some reason, any input on that as well?? thanks guys.

Just because they told you that you didn't need to change the oil for 7,500 mile doesn't mean that you don't have to check the oil level. Most engines use a little oil between oil changes and high performance and hard driving tends to make the engine use more oil. If your oil light is coming on during turns and braking that means that the oil is below the level of the oil pickup during those manuveurs (sp) and the oil pump is starving for oil. When that happens the oil pressure drops and the oil light comes on.

Check the oil level you dipstick!...............LOL j/k

Don't bother checking your oil with the oil light comes on; it only means that the oil pressure is dangerously low.

As for oil change intervals, start with the owners manual.

the dealer i bought the car from which happened to be a mitsubishi dealer>... hahaha i'm going to stick to the standard changing my oil every 3000-3500 miles.. other than that yes, when i leave work i'm going to check my oil level and just go get an oil change since it's that time anyway..... hahaha no offense taken to the 'dip stick' commen. :] Thanks for all the info guys.... figures the oil would be a tad low the way i've been driving the car! :] damn gotta keep my foot off the gas as much as i have it floored.

actually yesterday after work i checked my oil..... oil level seems to be perfect, do you think the oil light comes on while on a hard turn and a hard stop because of the oil adjusting in the pan where the sensor is??
