Default i took it to the track today

black performance Z

Well, I broke it in about 500 miles and took it to the track for some test at the 1/4 mile and here is my results.

note* this is hawaii track....( it suck) bad track...some bumps and potholes but i don't have anywhere else to bring it to.
So result is not what it would be on the mainland so take it for what it is. oh, I'm not the best driver too. = )

reaction --- .568
60 ft ------- 2.139
1/8 et ----- 9.244
1/8 mph --- 77.02
1/4 et ------ 14.350
1/4 mph --- 97.77

and it's at night

ok i'm racing it tomorrow at the track again and in the day, I'll post what my result is tomorrow...hope it is better. I know it will be better! It's the driver fault and track not the car...I can feel the car wants to go.

That's pretty good man. How many runs did you make? I wouldn't put that time down, it sounds good for the conditions.

Are you saing the track actually has potholes? or is that just a figure of speach? Here on the right coast we have real POTHOLES.

Yeah, DC area potholes will destroy your car... luckily I work just inside DC so I don't have to beat up my car too much...

Anyways, I see a lot of room for improvement in your time though... mainly on your launch. With a RWD LSD, you should be able to get a 1.9s 60' time or better... and your trap speed seems low... good luck today though!

Well, i raced sunday too and I couldn't get any better. The track has minor potholes and bumps....I don't know what to say... I just can't get to go any faster...maybe it's my launch. If I launch at 3500 rpm i will have wheel hop and if i don't my 0-60ft is horrible. if anyone can give me some advice to improve my driving and improve the car's time...i just know the car can do better...i can just feel it....just don't have the know how to.

Not a bad time for a 500+ mile car. I suspect that with more mileage, the Z can do better. Why did you take it to the track with only 500 miles ?

When launching at 3500 rpm, did you dump the clutch, or did you slide it?

I've talked around to all my mechanic friends and they tell me it's fine to take to the track after 500 miles. Well, launching at 3500 I drop the clutch...should i do differently...?

Yes, I would try slipping the clutch. You may be able to avoid the wheel hop and possibly improve your 60Ft time. When I had my 96 Prelude, I got better times with slipping the clutch rather than dumping it.

Hehehe, yeah. I miss that Prelude. It was not as fast aas my CL-S, but it was so much more tossable.

Good luck and keep us informed.

QUOTE FROM ROAD AND TRACK
"At the drag strip, the Z scoots off the line with modest wheelspin. Best standing starts are accomplished with drop-clutch launches while holding the engine at 2000 rpm."

I'm not a big fan of clutch dumps as they put unneeded stress on the drivetrain. Feather the clutch at a little higher rpm (~3000) during your launch.

1.9 sec 60' is faster than a stock LS1 Camaro or Trans Am will run. They're harder to launch though.

Numbers aside, if some of you are putting up 1.9 sec 60' times, the car will feel faster than it really is. And, I'm really looking forward to getting mine!
