Hey guys. Well this is a silly question in a way that I'll likely get flamed for. But I feel it's valid. I bought a 350z and had to sell it due to some unforseen circumstances in life. I am looking at buying another. When I had mine I liked it a lot but it felt very slow to me. Even with a full exhaust, intake, and tune. So if I get another I want forced induction. Turbo or supercharger. Haven't fully decided.
My question is why all the forced induction kits are so expensive for these cars? I have turboed and supercharged cars before. And never has it cost me as much as the kits alone seem to sell for for the z. Am I just looking at the wrong kits or what? Roughly 8k plus is what it seems to cost. But I supercharged a mustang gt for under 5k with brand new parts. Including the tune. And back when I had my 240 I put a turbo on for about 2500. If I decide to do it cost won't stop me. But it seems exorbatant compared to what I know.
Again, silly question I guess but I am curious what yall think

Supply and demand, mostly the latter. The Z is a popular car to modify so lots more options, higher cost. Because the mfgrs can charge accordingly based on demand.

Like you, I’ve done aftermarket FI for lots less on other cars as well but $8k+ (plus supporting mods) is the going price for Z cars. It is what it is so if you wanna play, ya gotta pay.

Personally, that kind of money is better spent on driver improvements so you can get the most out of 287bhp. IMO, acceleration is only a fraction of the total Z experience.

Yeah. I will agree that speed isn't everything. But coming from the blown v8 world (mainly) that 287 horses feels puny. I like in Oklahoma. There are no windy roads here.

I agree. It is expensive and even more now. If i were to do it again I'd weld up my own re-mount set-up, but I'm using this kit except with an Emusa wastegate(still ebay brand) and a different BOV with ebay 550cc injectors.
You can built it for under 3k. Not sure what this kit caps at as I'm only at about 300whp/335tq. This will get you into 12's at 6psi on cheap street tires

Now that cheapest turbo build makes sense, only 300hp is why it holds together. I couldn't even imagine boosting for that low of a gain, I'd just run spray.

I never said it sounded awful, I just wouldn't run boost only 65whp. You can do a 75 shot for the same results. I was more or less referring to the low number being the reason it hasn't blown up lol.

I would say compared to nitrous that amount of gain versus the cost sucks. But nitrous is momentary. And runs out. I'd say compared to other options it isn't a bad deal. Perhaps pieci g together a kit with just the piping and buying the turbo separately along with the fuel components may be the best way. And cheaper. If a turbo hasn't blown at x amount of psi then it won't blow at higher boost. If it can make the psi. The engine is different of course.

You'll be spinning it faster to make more boost, so that's not necessarily true

True. I was thinking for some reason that the turbo makes the same amount of pressure regardless and is just regulated to the engine by the bov. But there is also a waste gate for the exhaust. I would be wrong in that.
