Cool california coast cruise

I posted something about this in the NorCal and SoCal forums, but I'll post it here for anyone who's interested. I'm trying to organize a cruise some time in summer that'll take participants from San Francisco to San Diego. Projected route will be Highway 1, with the following meet points:

- San Francisco's Ocean Beach (start)
- Santa Cruz (possibly Natural Bridges)
- Big Sur
- San Luis Obispo
- Santa Barbara (most likely meet up point for NorCal and SoCal)
- Santa Monica
- Newport Beach
- San Diego (finish)

I originally posted a date of June 26(-27), but due to possible work conflicts, I may have to schedule this for July 10(-11). I'd like to see what everybody votes for.

There'll probably be a logo for participants to print out and stick on their quarter windows so we'll know how to tell who's part of the event. That's one idea. If anyone has any other ideas to make this an even more fun event, please feel free to add comments.

Okay, so, who's in?

Deffinitly intrested, but I would need exact, dates that will not change for time off work. I am already taking a couple vactions this summer and having to miss work, so I would need exact plans to try and make it work.

Sounds like a lot of fun though!

Okay, well, if people already have plans for June 26, then July 10 sounds good. Now how do I add a poll to this thing?

Hahaha, if I had that many days off I'd be for it I definitely encourage anybody with the time to spend to do that, it sounds like it'd be great fun!

Think that you could bring up a Nismo exhaust on the way to the Bay?

Bump (and mods, can we sticky this?).

I decided to do some logistics scouting on this when I was on the way down to the Performance meet this past weekend. Here are the notes I took:

1. Santa Cruz -> Big Sur was roughly 70 miles, or just over an hour of driving.

2. Big Sur -> San Luis Obispo saw the majority of the curves. There was lots of fog, and seeing as I was dead tired, I had to pull over once or twice to catch quick catnaps. If I remember correctly from a previous trip through this stretch, the scenery is amazing. Anyway, as a result of the curves, which lasted for at least 50 miles, the entire 105 miles took almost 2 hours.

3. San Luis Obispo -> Santa Barbara was kinda ghetto. There were a lot of residential areas that don't take too well to driving at highway speeds, and that last too long. The highlight of this stretch was getting to go by Vandenberg AFB. This could be a nice stopping point for a quick photo shoot. But besides that, I'd just as soon skip it and do highway 101 between SLO and SB. I had to take a catnap in this area also. The trip was 120 miles for a total of about 2 hours.

4. Santa Barbara -> Santa Monica was truly beautiful, taking me through some really nice parts of Oxnard. The trip was about 75 miles, for a time of an hour.

I didn't track much after Santa Monica, because I headed to Cerritos. But the trip from Santa Monica to Newport Beach should be just north of 70 miles, probably about an hour and a half, given traffic.

Anyway, those are the times I got, so basically, here's what a schedule for the day would look like:

Start (10:00am)
- San Francisco -> Santa Cruz (1:30)
- rest (0:30)
- Santa Cruz -> Big Sur (1:00)
- lunch (1:00)
- Big Sur -> San Luis Obispo (2:00)
- rest (0:30)
- San Luis Obispo -> Santa Barbara (2:00)
- dinner (1:30)
- Santa Barbara -> Santa Monica (1:00)
- rest (0:30)
- Santa Monica -> Newport Beach (1:30)
- rest (0:30)
- Newport Beach -> San Diego (1:00)
Finish (12:30am)

Sounds a bit farfetched, I know. Well, if we take shorter breaks, and drive a little faster, we could get it all done before midnight.

Feedback? Sticky?

Well, I'd be down for part of the trip. If you end up starting off on a weekend I would drive from SF to Monterey and maybe down part of Big Sur as well.

I think I may be able to do about this much :

Start (10:00am)
- San Francisco -> Santa Cruz (1:30)
- rest (0:30)
- Santa Cruz -> Big Sur (1:00)
- lunch (1:00)

Any ideas when this could be taking place?
