By downloading music from the internet, you're not really hurting the artists. For the most part, artists make their money through touring, not through record sales. And the artists that need the money from record sales, the small struggling artists (you know, the ones Metallica was only looking out for), most people aren't downloading their music anyway. And I don't mean that to knock them in any way, shape, or form. I just mean that the majority of music being downloaded is part of the mainstream.
