Handling it will hang witha 350 I remember the Prelude SH being named the best handling car under 30 k in 97 and then they tested it against a M3 which was th ebest over 30k and it hung well. Dont underestimate it in the handling they handle like go karts acceleration is a different story.

 

Agreed, I was always under the impression that the late generation preludes were very good handling cars.

Straight line performance, no question.

 

The last gen Prelude handles very well, I remember SCC had a shootout for cars under 20K called 8000rpm club and the cars came out in this order, 1. Integra Type R 2. Celica GTS 3. Prelude SH 4. Integra GSR. Lets not forget that the Lude SH has a active torque transfer system(ATTS, LSD) that distributes torque to the rear wheels that help balance the car at tough cornering. Ive driven plenty of Lude SH's and I think they handle great!

 

The last gen Preludes were nothing to sneer about a little whiles back... my younger sis has one. She got her's while I still had my Civic It had some good power and excellent handling (Type SH). Now that I have my Z, the tables have turned... with improvements in both power and handling departments. Oh, and aesthetics too

 

OH yeah whoever said a Prelude weighs 4000lbs is wrong.

It weighs like 3000-3200 lbs.

200hp 5 speed, It can run low 15's stock with a good driver.

Definately not a 16.

SC ludes typically run as fast as stock Z, and Turbo ludes once tuned can hit 13's.

 

i had a 99 prelude non-sh before my touring 6spd.

the prelude was a great handler... similar to the z IMO. i've autocrossed both cars and of the two, i would prefer the prelude for the autocross, actually.

my friend has a JRSC'd SH prelude and he runs high 13s all day. another friend has a 4th gen prelude (with the same H22 motor) with a 75shot and ran 14 flat. they both are definately quick and not something to laugh about.

as boma said, prelude does not weigh 4000lbs. haha. the manual one weighs about 3250 ish and auto weighs about 3350 ish. stock 200hp is adequate but i wished for more when i owned one.

but i am definately glad that i "upgraded" to a Z. it was just a time to move on. i wanted a powerful rwd

most of the preludes you see, you wont have to worry about. but if you hear a blower whine or the shiny intercooler in the front.... think twice before running it. after some thinking, do it anyway

 

i too had a 5th gen prelude.

That car was great. Great handling - even for FF.

One guy from the honda boards (Sev?) ran a 14.9 1/4 w/ his STOCK lude.

JRSC and fmax turbo were indeed venerable options for the lude kings.

Again, dont underestimate the car as it cornered very flat and actually drove like a rwd car. In fact, the prelude has less understeer dialed in (in stock form) than the Z.

Either way, stock vs stock you should roast em, but a FI'd or even NOS'd lude with a good driver will take you out.

Think about this. In the prelude's heyday, we would harass the domestic guys by blowing away mustang GTs (stock, sn97) in the 1/4, then hit warpspeed in the twisties.

On yeah, dont let it snow. I once drove home in a snowstorm and had no prob. In a z, you cant even drive in .3inch of snow. So I guess if the prelde guy races you in a snowstorm you are beat also.

 

Heh, if he's racing in a snowstorm he deserves whatever loss (race, limb, life) he gets.

 

I had a 98 SH for 6 years and I loved that car. Stock vs. Stock the Z would KILL it, however. I think we all know that. It was a very reliable car and fun to drive.

Wow can a Prelude EVEr beat my Z? HAHA what kind of a dumbass question is that OF COURSE THEY CAN. They can be made very fast pretty easily. A stock Z is not that fast it would take a good deal of work for the prelude to be faster but not to much. And if the prelude is turbocharged and tuned your screwed. I can't believe some of the dumb questions. and they don't weigh 4000 pounds. They weigh about the same as a 350Z if not less. I have had run ins with very fast preludes luckily none that were to fast but they are out there and it is a definate yes to the fact that they can be made faster then a stock 350Z. And the comment about you can make **** fast but it is still ****. Alot of people look at the 350Z that way and I hate listening to that argument it is just an excuse for you losing. Id rather have a fast car anyday to a sex machine because it looks bad when a girl is in your car and some cheaper car rapes it.

 

I had a 2000 Prelude with a Jackson Racing Supercharger (6 psi pully) with Mugen Catback, Mugen Headers, Mugen Suspension, Mugen body Kit, AEM CAI and some SSR 17" Rims...

Fun Car Got like 230 hp @ the wheels, although i'd have to double check, I still got the dyno somewhere... Biggest problem with the lude was front wheel drive, the front end would bounce some when dropping the clutch at a high RPM.

R&T did a reveiw on that supercharger and beleive the numbers were 0-60 in 5.8 secs and 1/4 in 14.3

Figure a lude costs around $22,000 for a SH, the Jackson Supercharger was like $4000 and another $800 for installation. So $26,800 for a car that just a bit slower then a Z.... Now throw a Turbo on the lude, and it would have no problem beating a stock Z, but who knows how long the engine will last....
