Default Oil Changes?

So I've heard from a few sources now that the old adage of changing your oil every 3,000 miles is complete trash put out by Jibbylube and others.

Anyone with some knowledge out there know what is a good time frame for a change? 5.000? 7,500?

Also, does anyone know of a site with a FAQ on changing the oil in the 350z? I've never changed my oil in my past cars and I'd like to start now.

Thanks

I believe somebody has posted a complete how-to on this. Might not be all that easy to find using Search though, since there have been so many threads on oil changes. It's not quite as easy as some cars, but it's not a big deal.

I strongly recommend that you learn how to do it yourself or let your dealer do it. Don't let any jake-legs get under your car; you will live to regret it.

You'll probably get a lot of replies telling you to change at X miles and use Y oil. You will be OK if you go to your owner's manual and follow it, allthough you may choose to use synthetic. Unless you're really rude and crude to your car, you'll be OK following the manual.

Good to hear. Just be sure that you always check it later for leaks, especially the filter. It happens.

Default Car Talk guys say

The Car Talk guys say you should change it every about every 5K miles.

Personally, I don't put many miles on my Max anymore, not even 3K in 6 months, so I change it at the 6 month mark regardless of what mileage it's at. I change my Z's oil every 3750 or so just be on the safe side as I do a lot of short trips.

Make sure you keep your oil and filter receipts for possible warranty claims. That is the only thing you have that can remotely prove that the oil has been changed.
