Default Some info from the car buffs out there?

I was looking at the metal "badge" riveted to the inside of the door well on the drivers side door of my Stealth TT. I was actually looking for the paint code for some touch up paint.

I saw the following numbers:

GVWR- 4519 lbs 2050 kg

GAWR- FR 2447 lbs 1110 kg

GAWR- RR 2072 lbs 940 kg

Can anyone tell me what all these abbreviations mean. Surely the car doesn't weigh 4519 lbs does it?

Lightbulb My educated guess.... (blind assumption)

It probably has to do with some type of load capacities for the car. The first one might be a total , the RR one for rear load, the FR one for front load.

K, did a quick net search, and got GVWR= Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. I would assume then that GAWR= Gross Axle Weight Rating.

I think it's the weight of the vehicle + 4 average adults (150-180 lbs?). My mustang weight on the VIN plate is set up like this. I forget what Ford rates an average person to weigh though.

GVWR= G ross V ehicle W weight R rating...the maximum recommend weight for a vehcile including all persons and fluid and cargo.

Each manufacturer determines the maximum acceptable weight limits for each vehicle by considering the combined weight of the strongest weight bearing components (the axles) and the weaker components (vehicle body, frame, suspension, and tires). When these are factored in, the manufacturer sets the vehicle's GVWR in accordance with the standards set by the U.S. Government.

So basically, you can have no more than 2447lbs on the front axle and 2072 lbs on the rear. The difference of 350+ lbs is because of the engine.

Thanks everybody. So I guess that if you estimate the four passengers at say 175 lbs = 700 lbs and a full tank of gas (mine is 20 gal) at about 200 lbs (a pure guess since I don't want to search for the actual weight in lbs per gallon for gasoline). That would mean 900lbs of "cargo". So then, does that mean the car weighs around 3690 lbs (4590-900)???

Too many estimates in there. Who knows what numbers the manufacturers use for average passenger weight? Or how many passengers they figure max? Seems like a roundabout way to arrive at your vehicles weight. That number shouldn't be hard to find...I would imagine it's in your owner's manual.

Here's a site with the 3000GT specks:

http://www.stealth-3000gt.st/FAQ-Specs1.htm

Says the VR-4 had 300hp, 307 ft-lb torque and weighed 3791#. in '91. But it went up in hp and weight in '95 to 320hp and 3800#, by '99 it had dropped about 70 pounds to 3737#, while still putting out 320hp and 315 ft-lb torgue. What year is yours?

Mine is a 92, 300HP so the 3791 lbs was 100 more than I guessed. Therefore they must assume each passenger is 150 lbs. and not 175. 175-150=25 X 4 passengers =100 lbs.

Now, the 300 HP, is that HP or BHP or Windows-HP or ABCDEFGHP?

I believe the weight of gasoline is about 7 pounds per gallon. Similar to water, but different by just a bit.

Hehe if you wanna get into that..
JP-8 weighs in at 6.7 lbs/gallon (aka A-1, aka jet fuel)

I think every american motor manufacturer measures their HP at the crank.

Why don't you put your mind to rest and just weigh your car? You live near any junkyards/weigh stations/etc? This will give you an accurate reading while in your car, with all your junk in the backseat and trunk too.
